Balanced XLR Interconnects for Bryston SST2 Amps
« on: 29 Jun 2013, 01:02 pm »
I just ordered a Bryston 4B-SST2 power amp to use with my Linn system and ProAc speakers.

I'd like to go with a balanced connection between my Linn pre-amp and the Bryston power amp (roughly 2.5 meters).

Which cable(s) would you recommend?

The rest of my interconnects are Linn silver interconnects (balanced and unbalanced):

Congratulations, Samurai, you'll love the 4B.

I use Bryston's XLRs. They're very well constructed and quite neutral and transparent. They will do custom lengths for you (have your dealer contact Melissa).

I've used a five meter pair of Bryston balanced cables since I got my 4BSST2.  IMO, Bryston cables are one of the best deals you can get.  You will have to pay much more money to get something better.

I have recently replaced them with 3 meter Cardas Clear Light because I got a great deal on them and I have an all Cardas system.  I'm putting my Bryston cables on eBay.  PM me if you are interested.

Bryston wires( balanced) :thumb: have been great and at a realistic price. They are silver coated OFC Van Damme with the very high grade professional Neutric ends   :thumb:

Hi Bud,

I appreciat6e the offer but I re-measured and will only be needing 2 meters (6.5 feet).  I'll check with the Bryston store.

No problem Sam.  I've got some XLR's so I should probably cut up my cables and re-terminate them.

Hi,

I am more "down to earth" with my cabling: My thinking is "if it is right for the studio, where the recordings are mixed, then it should be fine for me". Therefore, I am using the highest quality Sommer Cable studio XLR cables with the best available Neutrik XLR plugs. I feel this approach being very close to what Bryston is doing with its line of cables.

Cheers!

Another vote for Bryston but that's my ear.  Try a few and see what you like.  If you don't have a local dealer that carries them at <$300 pr for a 2m run you will not be out much on a resale.  As someone mentioned they are like all Bryston gear neutral and transparent.

Good Listening,
Mike

Congratulations on ordering the 4B Samurai, as for cables I have tried many over the years with Bryston but always come back to Atlas Cables, the Hyper XLR's are reasonable value but I now run Atlas Mavros XLR's which sound superb, works brilliantly in an all Bryston rig, very clean, transparent and effortless, well worth a try.

There are SOOO many options for cabling, I'd go nuts trying to figure it all out. What I wish we had was a review of cables, compared to each other. Thus, if I currently use cable brand "A", but *I* want my system to sound "brighter", cable brand "C" will do that.

I currently use Transparent Audio, but I have no thing to compare them to.  :?

hi, Markus!

...that's what I'm doing too - using Sommer Cables 'SC-Square Referenz' (xlr) for my SP2/875 setup :thumb: these are quality cables at a reasonable price.
