Pass through mode on B135 amp
« on: 1 Jun 2013, 07:16 pm »
Can anyone explain what I need to do to engage pass through mode on my B135 amp? The explanation in the manual about using a "null modem cable" doesn't help, as I don't know where to get one or how to use it. Thanks in advance.

Sending the code via RS232 serial port is only necessary for those that don't have a remote control.  If you have a Bryston remote control you just press the Code button followed by 245 and whatever input is currently selected will be programmed as a unity gain "bypass" input.

If you don't have a remote control then you will need a computer with a serial port (or a USB > Serial Port adapter), a fairly standard serial "null modem" cable available at most computer and electronic shops, and a terminal program to send the 245 code from (Windows XP has the Hyperterminal program, but it was removed from Windows Vista on).

Do you have a remote control?

If the operating software for the B135 is the same as the B100, do not waste your time going down the RS-232 path. I have just tried this to no avail on a recently purchased B100 and have had this confirmed by Bryston service it is not possible to activate passthrough on the B100 this way.

I am currently trying to organise the loan of a BR remote. I will do my utmost to load the passthrough code up to Logitech once I have this, so that if you get one of their remotes you should be able to use that.

OK, I'm having a Duh moment.  The B-100 has a pass-through?  I own one and never knew it.  How does it work?

From my post two posts above:

"If you have a Bryston remote control you just press the Code button followed by 245 and whatever input is currently selected will be programmed as a unity gain "bypass" input."

Entering the code again will toggle it back to a normal input.
