Why do they have Ozzie introducing them on stage?

Here, let me have a go...

Great sounding, too I betcha...I've got Fact 8's here and the thought of movin' on up has got me going through the couch cushions looking for change because the Fact 8's are really good. My local PMC dealer hasn't got pricing yet but I'm sure they'll be inexpensive...

I was thinking that the 70's crying Native American anti-pollution guy had gotten into high end audio.

DD, I vote that you get the 12s, and then you can send your 8s on a tour. You know, give back to the community lil' bit.

That's a great idea, Neeko - sounds like fun! For extra added fun, we'll ship one via FedEx, the other via UPS and start a pool as to which carrier will reduce their speaker to a box full of dust and metal fragments first. Dibs on UPS !

DD.  How's about posting a photo or two of your 8's in your man cave?  I think they would be a great fit for mine and would very much like to see your set-up.  Cool?

I think it's a great looking setup.  And while I like the sound of Salk speakers, perhaps not the best form to reply to someone's post that "I like my xxx's better" without adding useful content that might be of interest to other readers.  I think I'll be keeping my Maggies, PSB's, Snells, and Polks as well, but that doesn't have any bearing on whether DD's speakers sound maavelous.

+1,

I had a pair of PMC FB1i's an excellent speaker in it's own right,  but clearly not  in the same league as the Fact 8, and it looks like you have an Esoteric X-03SE player in the mix. . . nice.

By all means.

Thanks ! Gotta clean up that coffee table but I'd rather listen to music. :D The thing about these fact 8's is that if you've got music on and you're doing something, you end up dropping what you're doing, plunking yourself down and listening to the music...
You look at these things and think " Y'know, for that money..." They aren't all glossy or massive or covered in some whorehouse veneer and they don't have tweeters sticking out of them like the eyeballs of some exotic goldfish...no big whoop, right ?

Then you hear them.

There is serious speaker mojo at play here. I had another AC'er drop by last weekend to check the fact 8's out. He's got a system to die for and his speakers are PMC MB2i's which are pretty high up in the PMC foodchain and straight-up audiophile nirvana. We threw all kinds of stuff at those facts : Johnny Cash to Holly Cole to Porcupine Tree to Mighty Sam McLain to Elbow. Redbook to SACD to laptop-delivered high-rez files. It was a ball and the fact 8's never made a misstep. They image like mad, throw soundstage to die for, offer deep tight extended bass, vocals sound great, pianos sound like pianos, all delivered with a clarity and nimble liveliness that will spoil you for anything else. The last thing we tried was a Japanese SHM-CD remaster of Led Zeppelin II and by the end of Whole Lotta Love we were grinning like idiots. Fun uber alles. Big fun.

That being said, they're taking their victory lap and I will miss them when they're gone...

Ordered fact 12's.

Impressive 26 Hz response from 5.5 inch woofers (thanks I'm sure to transmission line design).  Can you tell I'm a TL fanboy?  Wonder though about a TL designed for woofers at two different locations along the TL.

Have always wondered too, what the limits are for domes (this one is a big one).   And it has no protection against physical damage.  Note description says 3 inch but specifications say 2 inches.

Peter Thomas is so out there (wherever that is).   :thumb:

Wish the efficiency was higher (only 84 dB/w/m).

And it's tri-ampable!?  Personally I'd go for the twotwo.5 or AML2 (big active fan too) and add sub(s).

Thanks! I had FB1i's - loved 'em. What did you replace yours with?
And you bet, that K-03 is a delight.

As far as transmission lines go, you're preaching to the choir here, Pastor. Big fan here as well.  :thumb:
The mid is a 2", my understanding is that it's a smaller version of the PMC 75 (3") that they've used in the big monitors for some time so it should be pretty hardy.
The efficiency is an eyebrow raiser - 5 dB lower than the fact 8 by PMC's specs. As I know that you are much more knowledgeable than I on this topic, do you think that the low efficiency is a product of the designers trying to get more bottom-end out of the fact 12's ? The comments I've heard about the new facts always mention the bass.
I looked at that efficiency number and thought back to when my dealer persuaded me to get 7B SST2 Brystons instead of something smaller, telling me at the time : " You may not always have the speakers you have now." Wise council, that.

I would be willing to bet that the efficiency is lower because of the added crossover point. A 3-way crossover vs. a 2-way crossover means a little energy is lost in the second crossover network. That would be my guess anyway.

I think your amp can handle it though,, and it's still an easy 8 ohm nominal load. Where are you on the dial of your volume control with your speakers now? I think you can adjust the input sensitivity of your amp for more gain too, if that helps.

Speaking of gain,,, I can see those EML 300Bs standing proud and tall upon your preamp in every picture.  :green:

Hey, congratulations on your new purchase D.D.  :thumb: I am excited for you!
