Tubes for the sake of tubes.

For all of you that can't resist the cool, or romantic glow of tubes on your rack or desktop, here is a fine tube product that will both allow you to use that tiny Tripath amp you have guiltily been coveting and give you that warm glow that has you spellbound:

DIY Nixie Tube Thermometer Kit

The device displays Fahrenheit, Celsius, humidity and Kelvin and even has a motion sensor to switch the display when it senses movement.

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

714F? Shouldn't that be 451?

It would be a lot cheaper to just put in whatever tubes and connect the filaments to a small transformer. Believe it or not, I was thinking about doing just that today....

We can probably assume that since these are actual tubes, the display is more a record of the previous room temperature as with this on it should be constantly rising

Hello John, sorry for the off topic post to your discussions, your private message box is full.  I need to send you a private message.

On a side note, nixie tube have been getting rather expensive lately, all the good looking ones are either gone or costing an arm and a leg.  I remember seeing them offered as kits about 25 years ago when I was in Taiwan, and 5 years ago they became all the rage again.  With simple kits that takes AC frequency to run the clock to uber precise GPS calibrated time.

Thanks
