Hi all,
Today I went to the showroom of Thivan Labs in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City)
and met the owner Mr. Thi and his lovely, friendly wife.
All of them spoke good English with me.
When I arrived, there was already a customer that also spoke good English.
All that to say: That I was in good company.
Thivan Labs has revamped his complete line of products.
Power amplifier, integrated amplifier, pre-amplifier, DAC and more,
plus, Thivan Labs now offers bookshelves speakers.
Everything is made in house.
So, we sat comfortably and listen to some music
via his laptop files with a DAC, push pull EL84 integrated amplifier (10wpc)
and his new bookshelves speakers which comprise of
one 10” full range driver in a bass reflex enclosure.
(Mr. Thi wanted to keep for himself the brand name of the driver
made in Thailand, I understand.)
The first thing that surprised me was the bass, deep and lots of it
for a 10” full range driver in a relatively small enclosure.
The mids and high are good and give a feeling of heaviness,
room filling and can play loud with very little distortion.
They also have a lot of punch in the bass, very dynamics.
The large bookshelves enclosures are well made for 395 USD/pair.
The integrated amplifier uses EL84 in push pull configuration
and the unit is point to point soldered,
except for the power supply which is a PCB,
it also uses a thyroidal transformer with a choke
and some serious filtering with several capacitors.
The EL84 PP amplifier sells for 495 USD.
Mr. Thi will be working soon on the same amplifier configuration
except he will use the EL34 tubes.
Overall I was impressed by the look
and the sound for something almost 100% Made in Vietnam.

Guy 13 on planet Vietnam.
When I am back in Canada Mr. Thi would like me to distribute
or sell his products, I am thinking about it seriously.
