I was watching some concert vids today from the late 60's. Man some of the girls.. it had to be rough. Poor, poor Keith.

Bill Wyman refused to play with stones again, wise man.

Already Mick Taylor said that would accept if Jagger invite him.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Stripped, an excellent live album. I have the original cd version and unfortunately the sound quality isn't that great. There's new digitally remastered version which is said to have greatly increased the sq. The vinyl version is $$$$$. I'm keeping my eye open for the vinyl (at a reasonable price) but may go ahead get the remastered cd.

Too bad, they've got Can't You Hear Me Knockin' on right now.
They were great back then.

I don't know why I'm even responding to this thread because I can't imagine being a Rock and Roll fan and NOT likeing the Rolling Stones.

Steve, a Vinyl Stones day sounds like a great one.  The riff in Can't You Hear Me Knocking is one of my favorites.  That is a great song from the band that was at the top of their game when it was recorded.  All of those old Stones songs stand the test of time and still sound great today.  There is nothing Mick or Keith can do that will diminish the greatness of the songs they were putting out in the 70's.

For the longest time, they were the best Rock band on the planet.  It sucks to get old but at least (with the help of Viagra) they can probably still shag the occasional bird... :thumb:

It finally came to a close with Some Girls which was when they were losing their relevancy.
That band really was the soundtrack to our lives, whenever they'd cue up a new album it would make me think about how old I was and what I was doing when that album came out.
I'm sure that's the case with just about everyone here.

I wish U-Turn would hurry up and release their turntable. I want the Stones on vinyl. Can't wait to get into that. I don't have any room for records but what the hell.

Back to my OP, my opinion now was that the Stones were definitely the coolest band of that era, versus the Beatles or Floyd, The Who, etc. Or at least I think I would have thought so if I'd been alive then. Maybe not the greatest, although they seem to have had their moments, but definitely the coolest.

I rate the Stones and the Beatles equally though on their folklore and legends.

Back then you'd put on the radio and Gimme Shelter would come on and then Won't Get Fooled Again and then Money and then it'd be Get Back and then maybe Riders of the Storm and today?  Well, there's always college stations.

Tru Dat! And some Steely Dan.

Due to this thread I just bought Goats Head Soup, actually pretty good.

I can't see ever buying anything from the Stones precisely because it's been on radio over 40 years.  If I never heard them again I'd never miss it.

i never liked the stones for just this reason for most of my life. when i was in my mid 20's a good friend and a huge stones fan said "don't listen to what is played on the radio, listen to the other stuff". and what i found was an incredibly versatile band that played reggae, country, funk, blues, accoustic ballads, disco (!?!), jazzy type stuff and more. they became my favorite band from that point on.

Sold my ERC-2 and have been happily cruising on the EXCELLENT music service Music Unlimited via my ps3, phone, and tablet. My cd's are all sitting in a box. A large box.

Anyway, never really bought any new Stones but since they're on M.U., I started listening to what's there. So far my favorite is "Some Girls". Actually, I can't stop playing it. Lol, never thought I'd ever love a Stones album.

But they just sound awesome on this one.

Thanks John  :)

Planning to start spending more time here. Nutshell: hit a sweet platueu after my diffuser build and just loved the sound of the system. No need for upgrades.

Then got caught up on Neogaf the last 7 months with the utterly fascinating (if you're a geek) ps4/xbox reveals and debacles.

But have moved, smaller room, and ready to begin further room treatments. Basstrapping and a dspeaker for sure.

I have crossed over to completely digital though, my tablet as remote and PS4 with Music Unlimited through external dac via optical is a worthy source.

Had been using ps3 raw via silver cables in optocoupler and with M.U. service (fed by cat 5) actually matched my erc 2 cdp. So sold it.

Just ordered an Xda 2 dac via Halloween sale, two xlr's, an optical cable. Ps4 here on Nov 15, then on to more room treatments.

So that's where I've been.

Meanwhile, Sticky Fingers is a badass album too. I'm becoming a bonafied, late to the party fan.

Ah Sticky Fingers. Now that brings back memories. I had my first real job the summer before my senior year in high school. Sticky Fingers was just released and I bought it with my first paycheck. Of course it had the zipper front. That album was played regularly at weekend parties that year. Good times.

Don't forget to Get Yer Ya-Yas Out, Mr. Clark.
A far cry from mincing in the streets with David Bowie...

Some Girls is some kind of masterpiece. Is it true that people didn't like this album when it came out?

I loved that album when it first came out and I still do. I don't care what anyone else thinks about my taste in music. Seriously..... I don't.
