So much awful solo work from great artists, too little time  :D

But seriously, sometimes I liken it to authors who start writing outside their genre. Rarely successful, sometimes you just have to accept the parameters of artistic success. That ineffable thing that makes a band work. Man if we could identify what that is!! It's interesting when bands break up and reform and can't get the magic back. Does it mean the folks didn't have great talent, hell no. Look at Eric Clapton, I personally can't stand any of his solo work, but he's still a guitar genius. I love me some Stones!!! Another question for someone like me in their middle 30's who has never seen the band, would it be worth the exorbitant expense?

Once the Beatles broke up they were the greatest rock and roll band in the world for a good many years.

I like the Rolling Stones records; but you know you've got a four page thread going about a band that hasn't put out a decent record, or been relevant for over three decades.

The records speak for themselves, but If you're not a stones fan it's ok. There are a lot of other bands.

Pretty sure most of us can count to four - many of us reportedly can get as high as six or seven if we aren't distracted.. :green:

Saying that the Stones aren't relevant is curious - any serious fan of rock music would say that statement is indicative of a superficial knowledge of the genre. You don't have to be a big Stones fan ( and I am by no means the biggest Stones fan here by any stretch ) to appreciate their importance unless you're just being a contrarian... Beethoven hasn't had a hit in a while either. Still relevant, I would venture.

And yeah, there's lots of other bands for sure, but it's pretty hard to get a four-page thread together about the Ting Tings...

Wife and I watched Crossfire and we both lost our vision for a few seconds.
It had to do with Jagger and I still can't get it out of my brain. Reminded me
of the feed the children commercials. Over all it was good, but

No problem here with this. I have a hard time finding anyone putting out any great records in the last 3 decades anyway.

(Please no suggestions  :nono: - I know where to find "great" new records/artists threads and forums including AC. Still feel the same. Just saying that the quality and the inventiveness of music has taken a nose dive.)

The Stones have had a few missteps but who hasn't. To me they are what rock & roll is all about.

Well, I thank the Rolling Stones for assembling their Rock and Roll Circus...not so much for the event, and certainly not for their performance, but for capturing this spectacular footage....

I'd love the Stones if it weren't for Mick Jagger.   Yeah, I know....

I have a friend who feels the same way. I feel the exact opposite.  There are tons of great bands now.

True, we are swimming in choices, you just have to go find it. You're not going to turn on your mainstream rock radio station and expect to find anything.

Anyway, hey, there's also a pretty decent movie on Netflix called "Stoned" that deals with the Brian Jones thing and covers him getting fired up to the last moments. Sad story, the way they tell it.
