I'm archiving albums that never will make it to CD (or that the CD versions are "remastered" and no longer match the original LP mix), so I want the noise floor to be as low as possible. 

Can I substitute the each 9v battery with 6 AA batteries? Will this burn anything out or degrade the sound?

I intend to use the Bugle Power supply for casual listening.

That is perfectly fine.  Just be careful not to wire in the negative battery pack backwards (the "+" is ground).
