Sunday, April 7th at 1pm to 5 pm at Don's abode
« on: 21 Mar 2013, 11:31 pm »
For the next gathering of the tribe, let's plan on Don B's place on Sunday, March 24th, 1 pm to 5 pm.  Don is in Ballwin, close to Barrett Elementary school.  Please RSVP via PM, and he will give you the address, phone number and directions.

If anyone wants to bring equipment, I have two rooms - one equipped with my Pass/Meridian/BAT/Vandersteen 5.1 set-up, and a second in the man-cave with a 3.1 set-up (Arcam/Epos ELS-3 / Outlaw subwoofer).  I'll clean up my shop and have my projects laid out (a Pass F5 Turbo, a Broskie Aikido toob preamp, and a Pass balanced B1 buffer preamp.). Lots of parts but little progress.

I will ask Terrance DuPuis if he is available to talk STLPR, but we won't let that hold us up - he is a very busy dude, but he has Quads so he can't be all bad.

Finally - I have lots of beer left over from the NFL playoffs I need to get rid of before it makes me fatter.  Please come drink it all.  I will have snacks and Carroll Shelby (my hero) chili.  You are welcome to bring something, but not required.  (I'll bet Dave has midnite snacks for a month after the spread I saw at his place !!)

Don, I started a thread for this separate from the events thread. Please pm Don to RSVP...

Thanks, Dave.  Some updates:  I have plenty of beer and soft drinks - if you want any other adult beverages, BYOB.  I'm serving Carroll Shelby Chili and snacks.  Terrance DuPuis WILL be joining us and will be glad to answer all your questions on St. Louis Public Radio (KWMU) and how they put the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra on the air.  If you want to bring music, my system will play anything that is round.  Right now I've got some interesting 5.1 recordings for you, including Bach's Toccata and Fugue from a church in Germany with four ranks of pipes, Pink Floyd, some great 2L recordings from Norway, Tom Jung's great dmp choral recordings, and some Blu-Ray videos from Italy with the Bach Brandenburg Concertos, (it is his birthday today).  I also have new vinyl of Brubeck, Davis, Clark and others, as well as Proprius, Reference Recordings, Sheffield Labs, and RealTime Records.

You can call my home phone, (636) 394-4250 for directions.  See you on Sunday.

Hi, Guys.  Cindy Pressler is predicting a major snowstorm for Sunday afternoon.

As much as I like a good party, I don't want to put any of you major dudes in danger of running it into a ditch.  I will check the forecast at Noon tomorrow, and if it doesn't change, I think we should postpone until April.  Stay tuned to this channel.

OK, guys - I looked at the NWS Website today and nothing has changed since yesterday.  The whole eastern half of central Missouri is under a winter weather warning starting tonite and running through early Monday morning.  Roads may be impassable by early tomorrow afternoon.

As a result, I have elected to cancel the GAS gathering at my place tomorrow and reschedule it for Sunday, April 7th at 1pm to 5 pm....same place, same beer, same eats.  Please accept my apologies, but I don't want anyone to get hurt, and it sounds like tomorrow afternoon could be a real mess.

Hi, Guys.  Cindy Pressler is predicting a major snowstorm for Sunday afternoon.

Cindy Pressler is an ignorant you know what ... she predicts nothing, only reads what she's told.

But in this case, whoever programmed her tele-prompter was right.  Rain starting tonight about 10pm-midnight, cold air moving in pretty quickly and by tomorrow early morning changing to snow west to east.  And there's a TON of energy with this storm, possible thundersnow, and things will get frisky in a hurry.  I'd agree, good idea to cancel the get-together.

Screw that. I'll pilot the Jefferson County fourbyfour snow shuttle.   :icon_twisted:

Did we forget that the Arch is a huge weather modification machine and we won't get snow because of it? :wine:

I think the Arch Affect only works in seasons when it's supposed to snow.
Outside of that, all bets are off.
What have we got so far, 5"?

We've got just under a foot. The power just went out. I'm going to put on my hunting boots an go see if its one of the lines in the neighborhood.

I've got half that much snow. I feel ripped off.  :dunno:
I've also got an 8000 watt generator you can use, if you need it.

Ok, for the second time today I have cleared driveways.  About a foot total up here in the Chuck.  Came in the second time to a nice warm irish coffee and Tony Bennett spinning on the turntable.  Could shape up to be a good evening.

Sorry you guys are getting hit so hard over there in STL. Some how the storm just seemed to pass right over us in So. IL. Here's a view from our farm today on this sunny, spring afternoon in Union County, IL!  8)

Still no power though Ameren is in the area. Hopefully it will be back on in the next hour or so.

Good thing was when the power went off Laura was just finishing a big 'ol pot of chili and a couple loaves of zucchini bread. So we ventured out in the neighborhood and invited some folks over for dinner who hadn't cooked yet.

Just as we were finishing dinner we noticed one of our other neighbors places was on fire. Thankfully what burnt was a detached garage, it didn't get to his house. Praise be. Lots of excitement around GAS west today.
