Get anything cool for Christmas?
« on: 6 Jan 2013, 07:23 pm »
For me it was a new set of cans.  We couldn't afford the one's that I wanted at first so I took a chance on the NuForce HP-800.  Since they JUST came out there were no reviews on them other than initial press but I've loved my NuForce earbuds so I asked for these.  Actually didn't think I would get them since I couldn't find them when I searched but Shaundra tracked them down.
My first thoughts on the sound is that they are more concerned with being accurate than bass heavy which seems to be the new trend.  They have plenty of bass but they don't shake like a set of Beats headphones and that is fine with me.  If they are missing anything to me it would be that the highs aren't open and airy as I like but they are closed back so they isolate a little more too.  I'm really enjoying them so far.
Pictures provided so that Bob will read this.

Also picked up a Denon DP-300F turntable.  Haven't assembled it yet since I need album cleaning supplies.

Bought myself some custom made XLR interconnects from Placette Audio.  Love'em.  I'm running them from my Empirical Overdrive SE dac direct into Pass Labs XA30.5 amp.

Well, what I got was from a little different audio manufacturer

I just got in this morning after flying to Dallas to pick her up and drive her back.

65 ford F100

She's got a 302 small block with a mild cam, roller rockers, Crane cam and lifters, 650 naturally aspirated carb, MSD ignition, headers, Flowmaster exhaust, FMX trannie with a shift kit, 9" rear end with .300 gears and a few more goodies I've forgotten about

If you want to hear what she sounds like, turn on you speakers and click this link

My checkbook was the real loser :duh:

Then again, I didn't spend any more on this truck than I would have on a newer (used) truck. Plus, this one is cool  8)

Bo, yep it's a standard Ford 9" with .300 gears. It gets suprizingly good milage. On the trip back from Dallas I got about 18mpg doing about 70-75 on the hiway.
Right now it has the FMX trannie. I may swap it out for an AOD. That will give me a 0.67:1 gear ratio in overdrive. My milage should go up even more. The truck also came with a T5 and all the parts to swap it over to a manual. Although the thought of a manual is a fun idea, I think I'll stick with the automatic.

Scott - way too cool!
If I were only handy enough to work on vehicles.  Please excuse the random thought here.  Scott, if you grow a white beard and starting wearing bib overalls we may start to accuse you of running moonshine.

Catastrophe- no surprise- you've been a busy man and I would love to hear the stats, new table, pre, amps etc....

Motor City- just how many cubic feet do you have going on there?

Well, if you were to catch me on a Sunday afternoon, that's pretty much what you'd see. I don't shave from Thursday on and (ahem) I own several sets of bibs.  Believe it or not, Laura does too...except she doesn't have a beard.

I got an audiophile's perfect snack dish, by the Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Just noticed today that it has a label on the bottom that says not to use for food.  Damn!
