Squeezebox Server Issue: Help Needed
« on: 6 Jan 2013, 05:39 pm »
I have two Squeezebox Booms and a SB2 in my home. They were all working as of yesterday morning. Everything shows up on the players, but now when I go to play a track it just sits there and the song doesn't play. A little sound will come through for maybe five seconds, then it stops. I hooked my SB3 up wired to see if that made a difference--it doesn't. I reinstalled logitech's software--no help. I restarted everything--nothing.

So right now I have 2 booms hooked up wireless, and 1 SB3 wired, and they're all doing the same thing.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Have you looked at your LMS server log? It's found through "Settings ->Information" through the web interface.
What's it say?
Do your players all show up on the web interface?
I had a similar issue recently and finally had to reboot LMS.
It might do to try another reboot.

Did you try a different song?  Some songs are messed up.

Did you try a different song?  Some songs are messed up.

Tried a number of different songs along with the internet radio. Nothing will play.

I see all the players under the info tab. Here's what the log shows over and over:

What should I reboot again? My computer? or reinstall the media server?

The wireless strength is 90%+ so that shouldn't be an issue.

reboot the computer the server is running on, then power off and restart each of the SB units.  If that doesn't help, reboot your router, then do the above sequence again.

I had a routing issue stop SB once, never did find out why, but reboots cured it.

Clear and rescan the library.  If the players are being recognized in LMS then there is probably not a routing issue.

I would clear and rescan your music.
If that doesn't clear that issue off your log then stop and restart LMS. ( This is what I meant when I wrote "reboot" earlier.)
Look at the Log once you've restarted LMS. You should see something like this...

[13-01-02 12:24:48.9222] main::init (323) Starting Squeezebox Server (v7.5.1, r30836, Tue Jun  1 06:02:45 PDT 2010) perl 5.010000

Hopefully, if it's all good, that's all you'll see.

Do you have a playlist entry with Germ Free Adolescents in it? Maybe delete that playlist.

That almost sounds like a corrupted file in the Squeezebox software library.  The error you are getting is about a bad link to something in their software.  Do you have your original download file of the server software?  If so, I'd be tempted to back up your computer, then reinstall the server software from the original download.

Unfortunately, the current version of the server might not be what you are running now, which is why I suggest using the original download/installl file if you saved it.  You could of course try downloading and installing the current version of the server software.  But I always hate to change more than one thing at a time when working on problems like this.

Actually, I just had another thought -- try creating a new music library with just a few copies of files you know are OK (i.e. will play through a different player directly on your computer).  Then point the SB server software at THAT library, scan it, and see if anything works.  If it does, then you know it's something in your music library killing it.

If not, then it pretty much has to be the server software itself.

Tried the reinstall. Didn't work.

Put just one flac file in the server. Still nothing.

Everything is rebuffering from my main pc. It rebuffers for a couple minutes, plays a couple seconds of the song, then rebuffers again, then a couple seconds of a song, over and over and over,

Well, you changed SOMETHING...that log is completely new errors...!

I had a few instances of rebuffering issues with our old, crappy router.  Is there any way you can hook both your PC and one of the players via ethernet directly into the router?  This would at leasts help rule out the wireless connections as a problem.

This line gives me trouble:

[13-01-06 19:48:48.4394] Slim::Plugin::MusicMagic::Plugin::initPlugin (268) Can't connect to port 10002 - MusicIP disabled

That sounds suspiciously like routing issues.  Maybe go into the router maintenance interface and see if somehow that port got turned off or blocked?

The rest now sounds like the server software can't find the music in your new library.

try disabling the musicip plugin, and any other add-ons you have installed.  Just run vanilla LMS.  The error may be talking about an internal port address in the server PC, rather than a router port.

Here is a link to a discussion of musicip and squeezebox, in general.

I'm using the same router with my laptop and the squeezebox works.
I connected it via ethernet last night and it made no difference.

All or most of that is standard when there's no database to found and a new one is created at startup. I think the MusicIP error logged may also be standard if MusicIP isn't configured correctly.

I agree, though, with the suggestion:

-- Disable all installed third party plugins.

-- Disable all unused standard plugins.

Restart the server, then do a new "clear library and rescan everything" and try again.
