If high end didn't make music sound better, I doubt there would be one.  Then comes storage and conducive to listening to the music surroundings.

The audio gear is not the hobby at its own, but it helps us to enjoy the main hobby which is the music in the much better way that we can think of and the wise man would maintain the balance for both to enjoy it better just like anything else in our life.
If the gear was not important, then this site would not even exist.
