Great work, as usual!

Which (if any) have you built and did you like them?

Thank you Tyson :) I've built the first two, and the question that started this off was what to make next? I do like the latter but it's too large and (being a prototype) too flimsy. Hence the exploration, which resulted in the article. My choice on what to build is the "V-frame" but I'm still working on the specifics.

Thanks John - I hadn't seen that.  Good compilation.   Please post your V-frame build.

Pretty cool John. I love to see the various types of designs all pictured and explained in one place.
To date, I've only built the first open baffle design and the RiPole design.
Question though, where does IB fit in?

Neat paper!  :thumb:

I finally got around to constructing a prototype of the "V-frame" dipole. As usual, no expense was spared...  :D

This is the inside view:

I'll try to take some measurements in the next few days...

I like it!

Look forward to those measurements.   :thumb:

Thanks Jason :) Main question for me is if the construction reduces the resonance peak at the front.

Question though, where does IB fit in?

Bob, only just saw this. Well, it doesn't really, the whole exercise was given a finite baffle what different ways are there to give it a smaller footprint.

So here's a measurement of the V-frame dipole. Outdoors at 1m, 0, 30, 60 90. This is not a laboratory-grade measurement, just enough to see basically what it's doing ;)

This is at the front and rear openings:

I'm impressed!  Not bad at all IMO.

I'm going to try a bit of stuffing in it, I'm curious to see if it flattens the peak out some.

Got some other ideas too but will require a more elaborate build ...

Had a pair of drivers and a test baffle lying about, so thought I might as well try something:

I finally got a chance to read this.  An interesting and informative presentation with nice graphics augmenting your explanations.

Valuable and impressive work John, thanks.  :thumb:

Thanks ohenry, appreciate the comment :)

I've messed with some stuffing to attenuate the resonant peak, it can be done but also reduces output elsewhere as well. So I'm figuring these (the small V baffle) are good up to about 200-250 Hz.

Thanks for this, John!  Have you, anyone on this thread/forum or other forums built a ripole that you know of?

Hi Hank, I believe Bob in St Louis did and it didn't work out so well but I forget what the final conclusion was there. Personally I am inclined to make it a bit wider for a W (or V).

John , I am not familiar with the plate amp/DSP unit pictured. Is that available consumer/USA ?

Yep, Jazzman53 has built a pair.
And some stats as well..... :o

Hi, it's fairly new: http://www.minidsp.com/products/plate-amplifiers/pwr-ice125

Not sure exactly what you mean, but it ships from Hong Kong.

On the V-baffle subs, I've got a plan for a better build, just have to get to doing it...
