Getting into vinyl ?? Deal of the Century - Almost
« on: 12 Dec 2012, 08:09 pm »
This looks too good to be true.  Bran new Technics SL-1210 MK5 for $42.  I shit you not.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00012F6DS/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=A1Y1YZUMAJWR8W

I'm getting ready to sell a couple of my tables (I have 5), so I'm a bit reluctant to buy another, BUT..... can't lose with this puppy.
Shipping is $21. from Utah. It's guaranteed by Amazon. I guess return shipping would be at buyers expense. Total 2-way shipping would be $42 hmmm. I guess you could lose if it's bogus. I put one in my shopping cart but left it for later.

Not what it says on my computer.

When you click on "6 new from $42" this comes up:

That is bizarre.  They have it listed under the table description with $21 shipping.  In my shop cart it said I will save over $700.  Oh well, you know what they say, if it seems too good to be true it probably isn't.  I wonder if it's a rip-off for a slip mat for $63 incl shipping.  Shipping should be more for a 1210.  Maybe it's just a mistake.   :wtf:   :dunno:

The part on top of the Amazon page referring to the table,  "6 new from $42",  is obviously a mistake.  When you click and open it up and look at the details,  the 42 dollar vendor clearly says it's a

"(BRAND NEW)OFFICIAL TECHNICS SLIP-MAT + POLY SLIP SHEET."

I fail to see the confusion.

it's clearly a scam form of marketing.  How in the hell could it NOT be, when used ones are $700+ and up?

I don't care if the slip mat is half price.  I won't buy from a sleazeball like that. :nono: :cuss:

Edit:  He also has the new TT for $985

I think more of a mistake than ripoff.  Since he sells the table for a realistic price in another listing, and is a new seller, I think he mixed up the ads.  I sent a correction to Amazon.

Agreed, I saw that right away.  However when you click on the actual description it goes back to the SL1210 ad with no mention of slipmat.

That slip mat description isn't in bold letters like that, and if you missed it Amazon tells you that you just put the table in your shopping cart, not the slip mat.  The listing is still there.  It might be a mistake, but it could be a rip off for the shipping.  Whatever. I deleted it.

How did you find that site?

I don't know for sure but I strongly suspect that's a scam site. No details on their web page, no email, phone or address. Don't even know what country they are in and there is no mention of them on any web forum out there.

The FAQ page says "usually take between 3 – 6 business days to ship in the lower 48 states." I added something to cart and checked shipping which said they would ship via Australia Post. You can only do that inside Australia...

Suspicious "about us" page too. "Since 1995, Audio Video Zones has been designing and manufacturing high performance professional audio products." I can't find anything on the site made by them?

"Audio Video Zones global sales force and distribution partners are strategically located with offices in almost every country. Wherever you are, Audio Video Zones is sure to be there.  Go to our "Where to Buy?" page for an up to date distributor listing." There is no "Where to Buy?" page on that site.

Seems suspicious to me!

Of course it is BS. Someone on Audio Asylum asked the same question.
Also said to be out of Malaysia IP address.
Marantz says they are not authorized Marantz dealers.

Bold or not, who cares?  It's right in front of your eyes to see.  I put it in bold in my post to keep it separate from my verbage.

And why would you put something in your cart without reading the description first?

I don't know how these linkages work on Amazon, but I just assumed it got linked into the TT by mistake.  Maybe something intentional or nefarious is going on, but can anyone say that for sure?
