Tyler Acoustics Speaker Placement

Hello,

I am not sure this is the right place to post this, but I would like to tap into the collective expertise on this site.

I just ordered some new speakers from Tyler Acoustics.  I am getting a pair of D3M monitors (big MTM monitors rated down to 35hz) and a pair of DS12 subs (essentially a Rythmik F12 with a driver designed by Dannie Richie)

I have read a fair amount of information on speaker/sub placement (to include those on this site).  I think I know the basics, but in my room I am not sure how to begin.

I have attached a layout with a couple different options.  The shape of the room has me wondering upon which wall I will place the speakers.

I have no constraints on the space.  I can place the speakers and eventual treatments wherever I like.

The room is a basement with carpet over a concrete slab and an 8’ ceiling.  Where you see the opening in the room there is a 12” soffit that is 24” deep.

For now, I am interested in the initial room layout and speaker placement.

So, what say ye?

Thanks for the help (and sorry for the lousy drawings),

Chip

Hi.  Tell us about those nasty little north/south partitions.  Can they be shortened or removed?  Actually, they may be less obstrusive in the lower rendering just look funny and difficult to get used to.  I think, however, that your music will have more weight and physical presence in the top rendering. It's a loading of waveforms/energy thing, I'm supposing.  Whadda you say, ladies and gents?

Posted this rendering a second time to see if I could draw lines representing new walls or even folding screens (tho of some substance) to cover those nasty corners created by the short walls jutting out in your rendering.  Wouldn't want energy/waveforms medling around in there.  Corner trap or diffuse it, but I couldn't figure out how to add the lines to the rendering  :dunno:

Yea, those little north and south walls are the problem.  Unfortunately, I can't move them.

Well, did my suggestions make any sense for you?  BTW, by corner trap or diffuse it, I meant the entire corner from the tip of the partition wall to the same distance along the long walls, diagonally.  Another thing, try placing the center of your speakers 8' apart instead of what looks to be ten, and your seat accordingly.  It's all relative, you know.  And if you don't, try it.  I think you'll see what I mean.  Made with the best of intentions.  Out.

Actually, in that 18" wall I have a floor to ceiling corner chunk.  I have built 5 other corner chunks that are 4' and six absorption panels for wall and ceiling reflection points.  I plan to build more, to include diffusion, but I want to work on placement first.  I know it will take a bunch of moving, adjusting, etc, I just want to start in the right area.

Thanks do much for the help.  I need it.

Sounds like that might help.  I've just noticed something.  The east/west length of the room is in 11' segments given those jutting walls.  So, that's gonna have to be a smaller triangle if you intend to have your speakers out aways off the east (or west) wall.  Let's say your speakers are facing west, three feet off the east wall.  Six feet apart and you could put your chair 9' off the east wall which could potentially achieve a more reasonably stage.  At the end of the day and to get the kind of expansiveness I believe is available, however, those short walls in the middle of the room . . the corners and cavity they make with the long north wall need to be taken out of the equation.  Got any acoustic room panels?  Know what I mean?

Hey, Chip, GIK panels might be of help.  I didn't mean to Bogart other fellows from commenting.  Help this man out, fellas.
