Intermittent bass
« on: 7 Dec 2012, 03:06 pm »
Can anyone pose a reasonable solution for a long existing problem?
I have excellent audio equipment
Bryston B135 integrated amp & matching cd player,PSB Synchrony II speakers + audioquest comet biwire speaker cable & Rega P5 TT/dynavector.
The problem I'm having is I get a really deep satisfying bass on all sources then at any given point the bass becomes dull & undefined.
I've checked & even replaced many of the above items but the problem persists
No one has been able to point me in the right direction..
Has anyone experienced a similar problem or guess why bass weight is changing?

IMO, your speaker are 4 ohm speakers. So when you encounter demanding bass in recordings, also dependent on spl level. Your speakers are drawing as much as 7 volts, which results in lagging bass.

So what you need is a power conditioner that keeps the voltage level constant. With a constant voltage level your speakers will not lag and you will hear the difference for the better, instantly. :smoke:

I spoke with Audoquest,Bryston & PSB
Why is it that no one seems to have a clue how to help in this matter?
How come this matter has not come up before with others?

I've wrote about it before. I have difficult to drive speakers, Paradigm Studio 100 v2.

Anyway, Werd a member on this board was over to listen to my system awhile back and recommended I buy his power conditioner. I was skeptical at the time, but he gave me a good deal, so I bought it. I noticed right away the difference in bass.

I'm using a Monster AVS 2000 or you can use a Bryston Bit or Torus conditioner. Also a power conditioner on the source removes RF noise, but a cheap one will do the job. :smoke:

Take a look at this $45 automatic voltage regulator on Amazon

What do you think?

Hi

Apoid1, it sounds like you are experiencing brown outs. Where do you live? Also what is on your hi if circuit? It also sounds like something in the vicinity is turning on (like a furnace or something) killing your power. You are losing power for some reason and it's most likely a power hungry device turning on while you are listening.

I am pretty sure that's it.
