Looking For Some Jazz/Fusion Recommendations

Mostly from the 70s/80s time period. I'm trying to add to my collection. There was some stuff that I'm missing that I use to have, but cannot remember, plus I'm sure there was some that I never knew about. Really looking for specific albums. Please help me out! All recommendations would be helpful. VINYL ONLY. Thanks!

I was kind of a guitar nut back in the 70s and the ultimate Jazz/Fusion Guitar album for me was the Mahavishnu Orchestra's "Inner Mounting Flame". Their live "Between Nothingness and Eternity" is amazing also. Return to Forever's "Romantic Warrior" is another classic.

A lot of ground to cover there.

Most any Weather Report, on the more eclectic side Soft Machine, and adding to Jerry's recommendation the Jeff Beck Group releases. The 1st still leans more to rock, but Rough & Ready moves closer to jazz, and Blow By Blow probably the most jazz/fusion oriented.

You've already got Terje covered, as noted from your posts. In that vein John Abercrombie, Ralph Towner, and Eberhard Weber, all on ECM

All are fine choices. Also Miles Davis circa Bitch's Brew. A personal favorite is Jeff Beck's Blow by Blow. Blow by Blow if forced to pick just one. J.B.'s so tasty.

I'm watching this with interest as for a long time I wrongly waved away fusion as "musical masturbation" but recently now seem to be really getting into to it. I'm not really very qualified to weigh in here, but here are some artists I've liked recently:

Jean Luc Ponty
Stanley Clarke
Pat Metheny
Dixie Dreggs

And one more recent band that combines jazz, funk and indian music (played very quickly - no raga stuff here) : Garaj Mahal. All their albums are really good.

O God, this list is looooong ...

not listing albums here, just bands, because much of what they do is Jazz fusion, especially their early stuff, some have been mentioned above. Also, many of the artists in these bands have also done several solo projects or have participated as guests with other groups. Generally they play in the sale style.

John Goodsall is in Fire Merchants if you can find it, they made 2 CDs. I believe it's the best stuff he's ever done. Some very awesome guitar work for sure.
