Your only option is to upgrade the crossovers. You can always upgrade your front end or treat the room. Or get new speakers  :thumb:

On a historical note, AV123 forum member "bigwally" replaced the 4" aluminum midrange driver with a Tang Band 50-1426SA 2" Textile Dome Midrange—no crossover changes—and was very pleased. You can read about it on the Chase Home Theater forum.

Upgraded  Danny Richie designed crossovers for the RS1000 and RSC200. The Skiing Ninja offers them.

that driver is no longer available.

i asked about drivers bc ive seen onmore than a few occasions danny say that aluminum drivers were an "alarm"  Granted, crossovers are designed optimally for drivers, but better drivers with the same crossover maysound better than crappy drivers with optimal networks. Im assuming the aluminum drivers were chosen for looks more than any inherent performance.

Dialog in movies is bigfoot's achilles IMHO.

I also dont want to spend 500+ on better networks for marginally better sound if another speaker would be significantly better at a slightly higher cost. i.e swap bigfoot for an n3s or xvoce. Yes, i know thefronts wont match, but its more important to me to beable to discern dialog in the movies im watching than tohavean "audiophile approved" front stage.

Consider the X-LS Encore.  Danny now has assembled cabinets available.

I'm not sure the X-LS Encore (or X-CS for that matter) would be an upgrade to a Bigfoot?

FWIW -

I got my biggest dialog clarity improvements (X-Voce) with room treatments and adjusting crossover points in my pre/pro

Upgraded  Danny Richie designed crossovers for the RS1000 and RSC200. The Skiing Ninja offers them.

Both those speakers got a redesigned XO.  Danny's new design that Skiing Ninja offers is significantly better than the stock XO's.

At some point back there Mark had me take a look at his RS Rocket line. Most of them were a bit of a miss. The responses were really rough and the break up areas of the metal cone woofers were not addressed.

Here is a measured response of an RS 1000.

And here is the spectral decay.

So I designed a new crossover for them that corrected those problems.

And the spectral decay of the new crossover.

I did the same thing with the RSC 200 or Bigfoot center channel.

Later RS 1000's, RS 850's and RSC 200's were produced with my upgraded crossover design. So some later versions did get an upgraded crossover, but most earlier versions did not.

So the earlier versions can be significantly upgraded.

And the Skiing Ninja offered fully built out crossovers point to point wired with Sonicaps, Mills resistors, and Erse XQ inductors (all the good stuff), and high quality wire so that the upgrade was a simple crossover and wire swap.

Lining those cabinets with No Rez was also fairly significant.

They can be improved A LOT!

Thanks Danny.

I have the "Signature" version -- stock.

That said, what would be the biggest improvement i could make for dialog clarity?  New crossovers?  No-rez?  How good can they be made?  Or would it be best to just consider another speaker?  I don't want to spend $500+ on upgrades only to have it be "marginally" better -- assuming the drivers are the weak link, or is it still the stock (signature) crossover parts ?

THANKS.

Okay, the first thing I would do is take a pic of your crossover and let's confirm which crossover you have.

Here's a pic of the crossover next to the bottom driver.  Sorry for the poor quality, had to jam my phone in the woofer hole.

The good news is that you have the crossover that I designed for them.

If it were me then I would upgrade the caps to Sonicaps, line them with No Rez, and upgrade the internal wire. I have all of that in stock.

All of that will be a very significant upgrade for those speakers.
