Unique Veneer Options

Would you folks mind sharing your favorite veneers with me?  I am thinking about finishing my speakers in white with a light in color veneer.

I'm totally a Golden Oak man myself, all golden oak 4 loudspeakers, audio and video racks, subwoofer stand, bass trap plant stand & center channel speaker stand,,, even a 40" octagon pedestal pubtable w/captain chairs which is my dinner table.  I love my golden oak,,, but white, not so much.  :thumb:

I've got a good one for you, I got dozens of veneers to play with a while ago, my favorite was New Zealand Kauri:

It has loads of chatoyancy, that 3d holographic look and has lots of different colors in it.

Might not be a good choice if you've had too much to drink.  :wine:   :jester:

Awesome examples!  Thank you all for responding.

How does one know what direction they could take the veneer when finishing it?  By experience?

In my limited experience you can stain any veneer with any color and give it any finish.

Something beautiful though, it's best just to give it a clear coat IMO, gloss or satin. I like poly, the minwax wipe on.

Do you want to paint the veneer white or did I misunderstand?

My thinking was to paint the baffle white and veneer the sides.  Currently, I think English Sycamore might get me where I want to go.

English sycamore is a type of maple (genus Acer), not a sycamore (genus Platanus).  Yes, confusing.

So if you are in North America, you might check out maple veneers too, which can LOOK very similar to the Euro maples (which is to say, sycamore!).

Interesting thread. It made me think of a question - is it even possible for someone to reveneer their speakers? I mean, strip off the old veneer, reprep the surface, and apply the new veneer?

Does anyone know of a veneer that could be made to look like white marble?
