Hi all Audio Circle members.

I few months back, a relative gave me a Panasonic 28" color TV that was probably 15 years old.
It was so heavy that we had to be two to cary it and I am not talking about a peice of furniture, a table top TV.

My relative also gave me and old Sony 7" color TV and even if I did not need any help to cary it, it was heavy for a small 7" color TV.

My point is, that they use to make stuff so it will last...

Let's hear it for us geezers!  Those were great days - we experienced the first high fidelity revolution.
I still have my H.H. Scott LK-48B integrated tube amp that I bought and assembled at ~age 17.  I've bought 4 more 222C's off eBay, as well as 2 Scott tuners.  I have re-coned and re-capped my Large Advents that I bought after getting out of the Army in '72.  No old turntable, however - I bought a Wilson-Benesche Circle table off eBay and will fire it up some day.
I wish you well when you return to Canada and begin to live in the past, with its great memories! :thumb:

Hi Hank and all Audio Circle members.

I am still not 100% sure if I will go with the Fisher 500C or the HHScott receiver.

I am almost sure that the sound quality between Fisher and HH Scott is very similar.

I also wanted to go with integrated amplifier and a seperate McIntosh MR-71 tuner, but the McIntosh might be over budget for me ? ? ?

What I don't like about the HH Scott receiver and/or tuner is the tuning dial, I prefer a lighted ruler type dial like these ones from
Marrantz, McIntosh and Fisher.

But who knows, I might change my mind if I see a super deal somewhere.

Once back in Canada,
I will not completely live in the past with my good memories.

I will buy a Bluray player, a wireless home phone, a cellular phone
and all sorts of hi teck gadgets...

Thanks and have a nice day.

You might want to check out 'Audio Classics' & their used McIntosh equipment. I purchased my preamp/tuner & amplifier for $1900. Both where gone thru by a tech there, and sound new. The nice thing is both pieces are vintage with beautiful warm looks. They fit in quite well with the rest of my system which was purchased new.

What a great website!  Lots of Mac and other new and used gear as well.  Check it out.

Guy 13, if you can handle the re-capping, etc, I'll sell you one of my Scott integrated's.

guy, do yourself a favor and go w/a sherwood tuna - s3000ll or newer (or s2100ll if you want am).  the sherwoods - either mono w/modern s/s mpx decoder, or w/stereo built-in, are far less expensive than the mac tube tuners, and better performers as well.  while the tubed mac tunas are certainly fine sounding units, (unlike their s/s counterparts), why pay the premium for the name when the sherwoods will sound better and have reception at least as good?

Hey, quit driving up the price of Sherwoods - I might need to buy a 6th one just in case.
How did that Sherwood MPX decoder work for you?

even if the sherwoods get "expensive", they will still only be 1/3-1/4 the price of the macs.    8)

i have only tried the sherwood mpx w/one tuna - a nikko gamma 1, thru its mpx out.  results were not great.  not sure if it's an impedance mismatch, or if the mpx needs a refurb.  when the sound wasn't up to snuff, i simply connected the nikko straight in, and it's such a nice sounding tuna, i got lazy and have simply been listening to it.   :green:  i do need to pull out one of my mono tubers - either a sherwood, sansui, paco or pilot - and give the sherwood mpx another go....

Vintage isn't exclusive to us old timers (who remembers the rec.audio groups before we had "www"?). My 16 year old has been accumulating vinyl records, so for Christmas I picked up 2 oldies but goodies for her to start her own system.

Elizabeth, is this your real name? I thought back in 63, HIFI was primarily a "male" hobby, so did you accquire the system, or your husband did?

Too bad, in the late 60's my experience was way different. 8)

My wife walks away whenEVER I put on my HiFi since day one. She hates loud soud.
One's meat can be another one's poison. I can only say - too bad!

That's another reason why I've installed my audio down in my house basement with closed door when I moved in this house some 20 years back.

Hi.
Hi all Audio Circle members.

My point is, that they use to make stuff so it will last...

Guy 13

Yea, those oldies were made to last long long time. They gave those old bulky stuffs to you as they have replaced them with new stylish-looking stuffs & want to get rid of the old suckers. Hence you've got them free. Free lunch?  :duh:

BUT, but make sure you don't make your home a dump yard.

I am sorta kinda an oldies collector but very selective. Now I have collected only 2 small tabeltop AM radios, one (Northern Electric) circa 1940s & one circa 1950s. Both are still working fine (after my upgrade).
Thanks goodness I did not pay much for them.

c-J

PS: last thing I want to do is to make my home a dump yard.
