I'm not sure how those could be related. One thing that could always be tried is disabling Flash, it seems to have a habit of chewing up resources.
I agree with john, it sounds like a resource issue, possibly RAM.How much memory do you have? What settings are you using in JRiver? specifically any memory playback? Are you using any VST plugins for room correction? How many tabs do you have open in Firefox when you notice the slow-down?
It's possible. How do I do that?

try keeping Windows Task Manager open.the performance tab has some memory information, and if you notice things misbehaving when all of the memory on the machine is utilized, it could be the issue. depending on the version of Windows you have and the amount of visual enhancements, 2GB of RAM might not be quite enough.try disabling flash first, per John's link.JRiver has a memory playback feature, it will pull songs into RAM prior to playback. it doesn't sound as if you are using it. VST is similar to an equalizer that can run along with a playback program, such as jriver or foobar.
Could you explain how to find out if you're using memory playback and the location of it's activation? I've used JRiver since MC12 and have never noticed this feature in Tools/Options. I have zero issues with my Play Doctor to my library so I'm just asking out of curiosity. Thanks.Cheers,Robin
