Hi...
I purchased a gently used Schiit Lyr with stock GE 6B27 tubes, along with AKG-701 headphones. Sounded great, but had a pair of JJ E88CC tubes, and tried them. Bass was too boomy for me. I decided to buy a pair of 6N1P's from Schiit. WOW! Right out of the box, everything seemed more detailed. Thought...if 6N1P's sounded that good, then 6N1P-EV's might sound even better. Took a month, but received four matched rocket logo's from Russia.
Results...disappointing. Detail reduced. Soundstage flat. Bummer. I decided to put the 6N1P's from Schiit back in, when I realized they were actually 6N1P-VI's. Had I noticed this before, I probably would not have purchased the EV's.
My question is this. Do 6N1P-EV's take a while to break in? Again, the 6N1P-VI's sounded great right out of the box. Or, did I get inferior tubes. New to tubes and tube rolling, as you probably can tell.
Thanks, Mike
