Schwartz may be the dumbest coach of all time and he and his loser team deserved to lose that game. Not only did he blow it on the challenge call, he decided to kick a field goal on third down in OT???  What an idiot.  A couple yards closer would have made a huge difference.  His bad coaching decisions are a disgrace to any real football fan and they cost the Lions a victory.  I felt sorry for Stafford in the post game press conference because he could not speak his mind about his idiot coach.

On second thought, Schwartz appears to me the perfect coach for the Lions.  If losing is you style, Schwartz is your man!

I just noticed this comment. If you're complaining about him kicking on third down, then you didn't watch the game. They were well within Jason Hanson's (the great kicker in NFL history ;) ) range. The teams were exhausted and running plays were being pushed back plus there were turnovers. It was the sensible move. He blew the call on a terrible rule, I'll agree with that.

And as for the Suh comment...the man can't drive, but take away the stomp incident and he really can't be seen as a dirty player. He made Cutler his girlfriend so I can understand your frustration  :thumb: Face it, he's no cheaper than Urlacher.

Hi Cujo,
Thanks again for demonstrating your football ignorance once again.   Donkeykong Sue (Suh?) was just voted the dirtiest player in the league for the second year in a row.  The vote was not close and future hall of famer Urlacher was nowhere on the list.   Suh is also the most hated player in the league among fans.  I can only assume excuse making Detroit fans did not have the numbers to sway the vote.

After years of futility in the basement of the NFL, Detroit enjoyed a brief taste of success (due to a Cutler injury) last year when they made their first playoff appearance in recent memory.  Even though they were bounced out after one game, I hope Detroit fans have good memories because it will be a long time before they are back in the playoffs.  Immature idiots like Donkeykong and their idiot coach will see to that.

Your memory of the Cutler incident is strangely different than mine. I recall Sue trying to knock Jay out with another cheap shot, only to have Jay get back up and help the Lions continue their losing ways.

I guess when your team is among the worst in the league and you have no victories to celebrate, you have to manufacture reasons to watch the games.  Celebrating cheap shots and making excuses for dirty players is just sad.  My sympathies go ou to Cujo and all of his Detroit buddies.

Here is the latest clip of Donkeykong Sue playing soccer with Matt Schaub's sack.  How can anyone say this guy is not dirty scum?  I hat to say it but the day Sue is carted off the field on a stretcher, I'll be the first to stand up and cheer.   It would only be fitting if the stretcher guys were dressed as garbage men.

Hi, here's the whole clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXDmCVSnn1U

Secondly, here's a dirty hit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmJYCDBrgHc

Worst case scenario with the Suh stomp, player needs a few stitches. Worst case scenario with the Urlacher hit: player is a vegetable.

Suh is a violent man. He shouldn't have come back for the stomp after being frustrated for being held, sure. Totally blown out of proportion? Yes. Just like the kicking incident. Suh has a bad image because he's so violent, but nothing he's done really has put any player at risk of major injury. He was flagged for taking down a player on (I think Dallas) because he grabbed his long hair and pulled him down. That's perfectly legal according to the rulebook. For all of his violent hits on QBs, not one has suffered a concussion or any serious injury at all. In football, things always happen after the whistle. Perhaps you should understand what happens at the bottom of any pileup. It's not pretty. That doesn't excuse the kick, but it wasn't that big of a deal. The player who was kicked barely cared to comment on it and wasn't even really harmed. It looks bad, just please separate the fact that it looks bad from the equation.

Jackman, you're not really worth quoting, but Cutler actually said: "It was a tough hit and he caught me just right. It was an awkward fall more than anything. I still think it was clean and he is a good player,” Cutler said, via Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune. “I knew it was my ribs and it wasn’t my shoulder or head or anything like that. His knee and the ball got caught in my ribs. … I knew on my way down it wasn’t going to be good.”

The Lions' secondary was decimated the entire first half of the season and it was too thin to begin with. Being without Best is a huge issue for the Lions, as well. The Bears are playing good defense and the division is a little different this year. Green Bay isn't the dominant force it was last season. Cutler's a great QB but a head-case and not someone you'd want running your offense. Hopefully he matures one of these years.

I love it, a Lions' fan talking about maturity.  Maybe your advice is best suited for your crybaby coach and Donkeykong Sue, your best defensive player.  Sue's immaturity has cost his team games and has cast a pall over the Detroit team with his disgraceful behavior.  You forgot to mention my opinion of Suh (Sue?) is shared by the whole league.  He was voted the dirtiest player in the league two years in a row and the least liked player.  Not the toughest or most voilent, or the best, just the dirtiest.  There is a big difference.  This guy is a punk who is putting his team at risk by his bad, immature behavior.  Keep making excuses, but as Matt Schaub said, I would not want this type of scum on my team.  Perfect player for the classless Lions.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/26/matt-schaub-ndamukong-suh_n_2193492.html

Please let me know a single case in which Cutler has done the same for the Bears.  In contrast, Cutler has a .773 winning percentage and I don't recall a single incident where Cutler's "Immaturity" has cost the Bears a penalty, a suspension or even a fine.  Too bad you can't say the same for Suh.  That guy is a thug, a punk and an immature moron who seems to be more interested in committing cheap shots than getting sacks or helping his team win.  What does he have, 4 sacks for the year?  Pretty sad for a guy who is supposed to be your best defensive player and pass rusher.  Keep making excuses for this guy and your sad excuse for a team.  Detroit is where they belong, at the bottom of the division.  Enjoy! :thumb:

Hey Jackman, how about telling us how you really feel.

BTW, Robin has not posted in this, one of his favorite columns, in 5 or 6 days and I think its because he cain't get any love for his Cowboys.  Don't be like that, mate.  This isn't the same place without you.  I wanna know your picks for the playoffs and I miss that commentary of yours even if you do love the Pokes.  I loved them, too, once upon of time.  We need the Satfrat amongst us.

I don't know if Suh is the dirtiest player in the league, but he certainly has made some of the dumbest penalties.  The most infamous was a kick to a player after the play right in front of the refs.  Jeeze, at least do it when the ref's aren't looking.  The latest shows he's learning as there was no penalty on the play.  So he's making progress.

Cutler is a jerk.  He's a very good quarterback and an asset to his team, but being a first class jerk on many occasions rules him out as a fav in my book.  Bears fans have a right to love him, but his personality is why his jersey sales have dropped way down nationally.

The Urlacher hit linked above is one of my pet peeves.  Urlacher tries to make a clean hit below the head/neck area and the runner dips his head at the last second causing a helmet to helmet collision.  I don't know if he was flagged for this one, but it happens all the time to defensive players and there's no way for them to avoid this, but they get the flag, and sometimes a fine.  I'm all for flagging any launching of the head, but good, clean tackles sometimes have helmets colliding which should not be a penalty.  This namby pamby rule is all because the NFL has lawsuits from former players complaining about head injuries.  First, kill all the lawyers, then play football.

I agree Donkeykong Sue is one of the dumbest players in the league and one of the dirtiest.  The Lions are a joke and their brief moment of glory was a fluke.

The Urlacher hit was clean and he is not known as a dirty player. He is a hard hitting player who is a leader of the Bears defense.  Although he has slowed down and is battling a knee injury that could ate this one of his last years, he still contributes in ways that don't show up in the stats.  Mentioning a guy of Brian's caliber in the same breath as a scumbag like Sue is an insult to any true football fan.

Cutler rubs a lot of people the wrong way but he's a winner.  He's gotten his brains beat in over the last couple years and he never complains or calls out players in the media.  He is very fiery on the field and is a very tough guy.  I never recall him doing anything immature that cost his team.  Unlike Sue who constantly does stupid things that help the Lions continue their losing ways.

Twitch, you have never been more right.  I'm waiting for someone to say Schaub actually attacked Sue's foot with his balls.  It was obviously Schaub's fault!

Interesting week.  With the tragedy in KC the line has gone from 3.5 to 5.5 against the Chiefs.  I don't have a feeling one way or the other on whether the games should be played, but I hope all reference to this jerk is kept off of the field.  No numbers on jerseys or anything like that.  A suicide is a tragedy, but murdering the mother of a 3 month old baby is reprehensible.  I hope all of his teammates remember her more than him.  But for the game itself, I don't know how the KC players can possibly get up for it.  Their season is gone anyway, and now this.

Except for some who cares bowls, the rest of the games look like they should go to form, of course they never do.  However there has been some big moves on the betting line with the Steelers going from 1.5 to 7 point dogs with Ben out definitely.  Oakland went from 3 point dogs to 1.5 point favs, Houston went up 1.5 points and NE went down the same amount, I have both as much bigger blowouts.  The Jets moved to a 6 point favorite from 4.5 points when I have the game as a pick'em.  Detroit is now a 7 point fav from their 4.5 advantage earlier in the week, more in line with my prediction of 6.2 points.  And Green Bay has dropped to a 7 point favorite from the previous 9 points, again closer to what I had at 5.7 points.  Lastly, the NFC East showcase evening games remain unchanged with Dallas blowing out my hapless Eagles and the Gmen holding their 2.5-3 point advantage over the Redskins on Monday night.

Go Philadelphia.  I'm not really an Eagles fan.  I'm a Cowboys fan but one who thinks there needs to be some changes made in Dallas.
