Best subwoofer under $550.00

Okay, chime in with your choice for Best Sub Under $550.00.  DIY is okay, but no used, must be new in the box.

Enough responses will turn this into a sticky!

Thanks,
Jim

P.S. the original parameter was $500.00, but that amount excluded two or possibly more worthy contenders.

Hsu VTF-1 Mk2 perhaps?

Best value, most musical, can reach low without being boomy, is fast and integrates well, has enough power to properly fill a medium sized room, works well in pairs, is of audiophile quality.

Yes, but it is $550. DIY is clearly the option then.

GR-Research Servo

GR-Research Servo.

Gents, did I miss a sale on the servo sub recently?  Currently, I see the amp listed as 379 and the driver listed as 179, which already puts the servo sub over the cost and closer to 700 with cabinet.  If it is available under 500 please let me know so I can potentially pickup another one to go along with the one I already have.

Thx

Epik Legend: dual 12-inch drivers, 300-watt amp, goes deep, very musical, works well in pairs, $499.

You can buy 2 FI IB3 15" or 18" and build a dipole OB U or H frame. You can also take AE( acoustic elegance).

I was hoping you knew something about a sale that Danny or Brian have not put up yet :)

I will post my Legend review in the planar forum as it will interest planar owners. The sub just showed up, and it is actually much larger than anticipated. And the 12" drivers are quite substantial.

I have it plugged in right now and it is sooooooooo smoooooooth, and blends with the maggies right where I plopped it (dead center, elevated). First time hearing a sealed sub. Quite amazing, and a relief to discover it works very well. I will be adding two more eventually. I'll link to the review here when I post it.

:thumb: happy. Got my low low end back and it doesn't suck.

You will get better results with the sub non-elevated for several reasons, the most important is less smear, especially with planars.  I have my subs on sub isolation platforms (platform in name only) which really cleans things up.

I have it on the ground now facing forward so one 12 fires toward a Maggie, same on the other side. I love the dual sealed 12 concept. It's like having a pair of subs and is very smooth. Very tuneful, and in my room has tons of grunt but without the overbearing bottom end I've had my whole life with ported subs. The blend is magnificent. More to come in a proper review.

Congratulations on your new Epik Legend! I also use my Epik with Maggies (MMG's). It sits on an Auralex SubDude which is only about 2 inches high.

It is interesting that Epik used to make several ported models and now concentrates on sealed subs exclusively...
