No one mentioned the ever-popular, "This is going to hurt me a lot more than it will hurt you!"?

That one wasn't true.

And from my exasperated grandmother (referring to my grandfather): "What can't be cured must be endured" which is certainly the truth.

From my father, when he was WELL out of hearing range of my mother...........

"The creature that God intended to be man's mate didn't make it through the evolutionary process.  We got something else instead."

Here's a good one I probably heard as a kid:

"Don't you go in that water until you learn to swim! But, Mamma...!"  :thumb:

My grandfather used to say "more ....... than you can shake a stick at".  I still have no idea what that means.   :dunno:

He was also big on "a penny saved is a penny earned" and "penny wise and pound foolish".

I got this one after surgery during the removal of a certain object about a week later:

Me: "Is this going to hurt"?

Doctor: "Not me".

Well as my Dad always said when it came time to go to Sunday mass.

“Son it’s better to believe in God and find out there isn’t than not believe and find out there is”
and he wasn’t even an audiophile!

Don't try to eat 100$ steak while working on a min salary, keep your habits in orders

" Wait till your father gets home". Don't know why. My father never touched me. It was my mother mother who always chased me around the house and whacked me with the broom stick.

A couple of years ago my dentist was building me a replacement crown with her CAD/lathe system. She obviously was not happy with the results as she was fitting it in my mouth, removing it and hand filing it, and then  refitting it. After several attempts I smiled at her and said: "you know what the carpenters say?.....measure twice and cut once."

When we would not eat our dinner, mom used to say "There are children in ____ country that would love to have that food."  One night as a smart ass teenager I replied, "Well let's box it up and send it to them."  Not the smartest thing I ever did...

At work, it was said of one company president:

"He would jump over a dollar bill to save a dime"

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

- To err is human.
- Faith moves mountains.
- The hurried eaten raw.
- You are too smart for your own good.
- The important thing is to compete.
