Christine McVie (currently retired) was my favorite, she could mellow you out with a song, perfect for enjoying with a good buzz.

WILD FLAG !!!

THANK YOU!!! And here's a shout-out for Weiss' old band, the sorely-missed Sleater-Kinney, while we're at it !

And for the old-schoolers, let's not forget the human hurricane that was Tina Turner...

+1 for Patti Smith (although I always thought is was "Smythe")
+1 for Debbi Harry

K T Tunstall (lotta fun to see live)

And my personal favorite, but I don't know if she fits in the "Rocker" catagory : Arethea Franklin

Well, it's probably stretching it a bit, but so is Janis and Arethra, so I'll go with Sandy Denny, the only person to make a guest appearance on a Led Zeppelin Lp.

Maggie Bell

Maggie Bell (born 12 January 1945, Maryhill, Glasgow, Scotland) is a Scottish rock and blues-rock singer, regarded by some as Britain's answer to Janis Joplin.

Grace Slick
Janis Joplin
Chrissie Hynde
Patti Smith
PJ Harvey

If I had to pick one, it would be Janis - she was unique.
I'm really looking forward to hear what Patti and Ms. Harvey have coming up next.

To my sensibilities...
Janis Joplin is obvious
Ditto Grace Slick
Ditto Chrysie Hynes (although maybe not all gens)
same PJ Harvey

had no idea who Pattie Smith was....had to google... maybe if you identify a tune.  Looks like a female Iggy Pop.

Lot's of good choices.

If you want to hear one of the strongest new voices out there, check out Emily Armstrong from Dead Sara. This girl fronts a band that's every bit as powerful as Rage Against The Machine. She can go from scream-o to operatic in the same breath. She's a really amazing singer with lots of confidence on stage.
