Pimpin' for a bud - standup bassist Tommy Cecil

TheChairGuys genes are mostly bereft of musical skills....and the cupboard is about equally threadbare in MsChairGuys family.

Fortunately, my niece had the good sense to marry a musician some 10 years ago now....Tommy Cecil, of Washington DC, is his name. He plays a very soulful standup bass.

He's had two prior CD's in the past 20 or so years...so it's not exactly a run-of-the-mill event when he has a new one.  This one is himself and pianist/collaborator Bill Mays in Side By Side (Sondheim Duos)

I love easy listening instrumental while I work each day (my listening room is my office) so this CD is getting quite the workout since it came in last week.

An earlier recording - Samba for Felix: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000QQWEUC/ref=dm_sp_alb?ie=UTF8&qid=1338746982&sr=8-2

So I'm not his manager or agent and I have no financial benefit from any of this....just steering some of you to my nephew-in-law and some nice music if it suits your style and mood  :thumb:

Cheers, John

I like it John. A bit too "easy listening" in the jazz genre for my tastes though. Plus, it's MP3.  :duh:
I'm on the fence.

I love upright bass. Would love to hear "him in front" instead of him behind everybody else.
Like a Brian Bromberg "Wood" and "Wood II" kinda thing. That just kicksass.

Heya' Bob,

Yeah - Tommy is def not an audiophool.  When I saw him last (too many years ago as we live 3000 miles from one another now) I think his 'system' was a Sounddesign All-in-One (circa 1995) and probably cost him no more than $250 all in :icon_lol:

When I took him to task for being a musician and listening to a shitbox, he swirled his red wine in his glass slowly, looked at me and said it's music all the same so why bother spending more - no use trying to get live music sounds in a condo cause' you can't.

Ha - wish I could climb aboard that same thought train - would've saved a BUNCH of spread over time.

As it's pleasant listening, background music, it doesn't bother me that it isn't audiophool uber-resolution...it sounds fine for the music it is (I have the CD, not the download)
