BDP-1 Software Update Experts - I Need Some Help!
« on: 9 Jun 2012, 09:43 pm »
First, I have been in contact with James and he has suggested that I contact Chris on Monday next week to take a deeper look into what I am experiencing.

I am hoping that somebody may have worked through the same issue and can lend some advice or possibly recognise that I may have made a mistake somewhere along the line.

I requested and received via email the Firmware bin. file to upgrade the BDP-1 along with the installation instructions.

When I get to the point of selecting the bin. file from my desktop and hitting the "Update" icon, nothing happens.

The instructions say that the update can take 20 - 30 minutes depending on the server load, I had no action for 1 - 8 hours.

I have no problem that I know of with Firefox and the bryston-bdp-1.local connection.

I am using a PC with Windows XP.

Do I have to have  software installed that can open the bin. file?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bob D

Hi Bob,

1. Does the BDP-1 have an IP address?
2. Do you have Bonjour for Windows installed on your computer?

Hello James,

The Network info displayed on the BDP-1 home page is as follows;

Network - DHCP
IP Address - 192.168.1.34
Net Mask - 255.255.255.0
Gateway - 192.168.1.1

Should the Network be set as DHCP or Static?

On the BDP-1 screen 192.168.254.254 is displayed.

I do have Bonjour for windows installed and I did re-install it just to be certain that it was current. ( I am not certain if it is working though )

When I hit the update button, it appears as though data is being transmitted, abit slow though. ( blink blink pause, blink blink pause go the router LEDs )

I get the feeling that there is a minor ( though important ) detail that I am missing in the process.

Thanks for responding again!

The 192.168.254.254 means the BDP does not have an IP address.

OK James,

Does that mean that I definitely have to contact Chris?

Thanks,

Bob

Just thought of something - try unplugging the power from your router for a few seconds and then repower. That will force the router to assign new IP addresses.

Then see if the BDP front panel shows a new address

James,

The BDP-1 display does match the IP address on the Bryston homepage now.

192.168.1.34

Ok try using that IP address to do the update. If all else fails Chris should be able to help tomorrow.

I got in contact with Chris today.

He took control of the situation and all is well.

The software update was a success.

Thanks to James and Chris!
