I'll second the Eric Johnson mention. His phrasing and articulation put him in a different league than the other G3 players, IMHO, not to mention his much-revered tone. I recall reading a piece in the 90s in Guitar World or Guitar Player...the writer was reviewing one of those early G3 tours, and he wrote that EJ was the only player that night to elicit gasps from the audience. Don't recall who the other two were on that particular tour.

The guitar start to play before the girl! One of the comments say that she can even play well but not this way.

I'd pick Frank Zappa, Andres Segovia, and Leo Kottke.  :thumb:

There are 32 Hendrix CDs?

Yes, even more. There are still quite a few that I don't have or don't care to have. There were only a handful of originals, but since he died there has been no end to re-releases, re-mixes and compilations. Jimi had his own studio and spent a lot of time there laying down tracks.

Studio albums         9
Live albums           19
Compilation albums  28
EPs                       20
Singles                  17
Official bootlegs      23

It is an injustice to narrow it down to 3 guitarist as there are just too many great guitarists.  I will mention the one that everybody in Los Angeles went to to get good was the late Ted Greene.

He taught the best of the best...search YouTube for Ted Greene.  Note: He didn't perform live that much, but when he did, it was an event.  There wasn't a guitarist who had the knowledge, touch, and who could play in any genre like Ted.

I think the best guitarist are from Jazz and Classical, rock guitars are plenty of noise.

But always worth listening David Gilmour, Stave Howe and Jan Akkerman.

I think the best guitarists are rock and metal guitarists. Classical and Jazz guitars are boring.

see what I did there  :green:

BTW, all the guitarists mentioned are frigging hall of the ancients. GREAT, yes, but you're all seemingly unaware of some truly equally great modern players.

In keeping with the flow, I would say Buddy Guy, Neil Young, Carlos Santana.  I know the latter chap can be kind of his own clique, but if you were to hear him on the album he did with John McClaughlin- Love, Devotion, Surrender- it's pretty hard for me not to include him.  Ya'll be cool!

On the aformentioned Santana recording, in particular would be the closing track, The Life Divine.  The mostest cryin shame is the murkiness of drummer Billy Cobham, bassist Doug Rauch, and organist Larry Young in the mix.  Boy, this is one I'd like to hear with better separation and recorded in uncompressed direct-to-disc!  Santana shines, no beams.

Obviously, this is a very subjective topic and a matter of taste. I never cared for the three in the video. My top 3 are David Gilmour, Eric Clapton and Lindsey Buckingham.

Lindsey Buckingham is also one of my all-time favs.  He's not showy but what he plays is always perfect for the song.  Highly underrated.
