I think you just need to activate and configure Apple Screen Sharing in the Preferences panel:  http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/14066.html

Yeah, pretty easy to do. The Mac Mini should show up as a shared computer in the Finder window. Click Share Screen and voila! Run my Mini totally headless, and just go from my MacBook. Can also do this from an iPad, iPhone or Android phone (with the appropriate software installed), but I haven't messed much with that. I also use the Public Folder of computers set up this way to exchange files back and forth.

What I haven't done and would like to do is to see if this screen sharing can be done with the Mac Mini hardwired to the network via Ethernet and my MacBook using the wireless network. Keep meaning to look into that. Right now it is all over WiFi.

I have just that setup (except my MacMini is a dual core G5 tower)

So with the Ethernet to your G5, it will still show up as a shared drive on a computer on the wireless network? Anything special you need to do to get this to work? (Think I may need to dig out my ethernet router...)

apologies for being a little off topic.
Is there any way to control a MAC Mini remotely via a android tablet or with a Win 7 based laptop?

Is VNC the best option?

Remote desktop works over the network... so when they are box wireless you have a wireless router somewhere. Remote Desktop doesn't car eif it is wireless or wired. I just recently found i can control/screen share my G5 tower running Tiger as well. It is in the basement and doesn't have wireless. So i have it working across 3 machines with Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard

Ok, I have finder window and it shows I'm connected to mini, but it shows public folder and when I open it has a drop box but it won't let me open it. How do I get mini screen to show up on my Mac book screen?

At the top of the screen when you click on the shared device there should be a little gray bar that appears, with a button that says "Share Screen." Click that.

Might be a bit different if you have an older OX on your MacBook.

Alternatively, there is should be a program on your computer named "Screen Sharing.app" You will need to figure out what to input when it asks for Host. I wasn't clear exactly what it needed to work that way. I just click "Share Screen" in the Finder window when the shared computer is showing.

Killer. Enjoy.

And I do generally find that there is a bit of a lag on the other computer, so I wouldn't try to got too fast.

Other tip I have is that if you want a larger Screen Sharing window on your MacBook, adjust the monitor settings on your MacMini. IIRC, lower resolution --> bigger Screen Sharing window. But I may have gotten that backwards.

well, aren't computer non-geeks like us what Apple is counting on?  :thumb:

of course we lucky ones can usually find a MacHead when we really need one
