I've become fascinated with the idea of a Squeezebox Touch to add to my multi-zone Mac Music server (using several Arport Expresses, <$350 Toslink DACS and powered speakers for the satellite areas, and a Rega Dac, Mac Mini, tube amp and Joseph Audio Pulsars for the main system. iTunes and Remote are my main software items. Getting ready to play with Pure Music and/or AudioNirvana)
So - here at Audio Circle, many seem to like the SB Touch a lot, especially with the Digital Mod from Bolder Cable (costs more than the SB Touch) and the Bolder linear power supply with Bybee Music Rail (add another $800.) That makes it an almost $1500 unit (with apparently amazing sound quality at that point.)
I saw the positive review Chris did over at Computeraudiophile a while back - so I'm intrigued. He put the SB Touch on his exclusive C.A.S.H list - sort of of Hall of Fame for equipment and software.
At the same time, I can't quite see what I'm going to get by having a Squeezebox in my life, as opposed to the Airport Expresses and my main system. I know it implements internet radio pretty well, and handles FLAC files. I am using 16/44.1 aiff files, for the most part. I do like Pandora and SiriusXM.
So - Squeezebox fans - what's the big deal? Or am I just not getting something? Thanks!
