DIY Dust Cover for your platter........

Made of few of these, so I thought I'd share the concept and design. It's easy to make. It's made from .020" thick polycarbonate sheet, that you can get at any hobby shop or JoAnn Fabric store. Mine are round because I have tooling for another of my products, so it was easy for me to make that way. You can make yours square it you want. The center hole can be a triangle (equilateral inscribed about a .285" diameter circle. Or you can drill out the hole for the spindle with a 9/32" drill bit (may have to slightly enlarge it), or a letter L (.290").

The concept is just to cover the platter, where dust can come into contact with the record. Cost of the project should be around $5.

I just bought a vinyl printer cover for about $3 and put it over my whole TT. Of course, you MUST have a stylus guard or it could catch on they little protruding thing and rip it roight off sometimes.

Yes, neat looking for a few bucks.

BUT, but I'd also worry dusts on the tonearm & other related areas. I'd build a plastic cover to cover the whole TT. NO more worry damaging the stylus by overlooking.

why go through all this, just get a cheap record at goodwill and put it on the platter when not in use.   :thumb: :duh:

Sonny, you could make us of the old "cone of silence" from Get Smart. I think that might just cover your entire turntable!

Paul that's a good idea!  Instead of manually lifting the cover off, install a pulley system and motor and hit a button and it will raise and lower on command!

You really need to get something to keep the dust off the rest of that tt Dave.  :?

And the mold too! A little cleaning wouldn't hurt it, you know.

The dustcover has been in my possesion longer than the beater rega ($100). It was a picture taken on a bad day. The dust doesn't really affect its performance (as a dust cover would)

Digital flash pictures make EVERYTHING look dusty! (but that TT is a wee bit dusty...)

If you played your records wet, that Rega'd clean itself!
