built the stands, amp platforms sand box for the tt  and the speakers

yeah, very unique. What was your inspiration for those?

I have to be honest, at first glance I wasn't pleasantly struck by their shape, but now the more I look at them, I really like it  :thumb: nice stands!

:o I looked them up. 140K, wow that is a lot of money. I'd love to see (drool over) pics of the entire system!

They don't have the look of a speaker in that category, from what I've seen in pics, with segmented driver sections and tweeters typically occupying some tiny, specialized compartment near the top. This one has the broad face and driver layout I'm more accustomed to seeing. I supposed it's all under the hood! I can't even imagine what that must be like. Bowing down sir.

it was the material i had on hand at the time, hard maple counter tops this i cut into strips and glued together so the end grain showed

ps the bottoms were the same size as the bases for the floor standers that i built so honey couldn't say they were taking up any more room. that was part of the plan

I sent her a pm telling her to stop moving them, but vacuum the tweeters every day because they don't sound as good when the ribbons get dusty

No they are actually very cool looking. If you are ever able to get them into a sort of more dedicated listening space, they will look even more distinctive. It's a very bold look, those stands.

Ed, you could always dust them yourself so your honey doesn't feel the need. Don't tell my honey I said this.

Everyone has a different approach. Here's a partial on the rest of the system, just before a few updates were done...

No kids, no cats, and (respectfully) my wife has always known not to touch any of the audio equipment. I do the dusting, when needed, myself.

Get a man cave and smoke cigars in it. It's like garlic to a vampire. Keeps my wife out.

Tonepub, I have to ask, because I've never been around anything like that. Are those speakers really worth $140,000?

Mine are just under 3K total, and they are an absolute dream. I ask in total ignorance because I've never been around speakers $50,000 more expensive than a Dodge Viper. Hell I've never been around $50,000 speakers. The mind just boggles.

I would think a $140,000 speaker, or speaker system would be able to recreate any sound in life, from the sound of hail falling across a parking lot, to niagara falls, to a 360 degree windstorm in African longrass, to Soundgarden in a stadium, with utter 3D reality, you close your eyes and you are there. It's real.

That's my estimation extrapolating what I have now and adding another $137,000 to it. That's what I would expect for that money. And even then, I wouldn't expect it would cost that much to do it.

 Why so much??  :o
