Differences between 2B-SST2 and 3B-SST2?
« on: 22 Feb 2012, 05:06 am »
I'm just curious what the differences are between the 2B-SST2 and 3B-SST2 other than the 50 watt difference in power? From what I can tell from comparing the spec sheets, almost all the specs are the same, but there is a substantial increase in heat dissipation of the 3B-SST2. Is that related to a heavier biasing towards class A or something like that?

Hi

The 3B has 4 output transistors per channel (2B has 2) and a much larger power supply so the 3B can deliver much more power to lower impedances than the 2B.

Thanks... that's just the information I was looking for. My speakers are 4 ohm so it's probably worthwhile to consider the 3B.

Or the 4B for about $700 more...

The 2B is a wonderful beast for multiamplified systems, for driving medium and highs units, refined and yet dynamic.

Anybody have experience with the 2B SST2 and Totem Model 1 Signatures (4 ohms)?

The Model 1 will run with the 2B-SST2 but not to it's full potential.  You will get better performance out of the 3B-SST2 or higher.  Totems tend to show better with more power.  That said, if cash strapped, a 2B-SST2 will likely do the job.
