This is a NOOB question, but what does" rooted" mean?

Android is the basic operating system but companies make their own software solution around android for whatever reason. All phones except for 'pure google' phones do this. The problem is that the other software and whatever other bloatware they install bogs down the system's memory and prevents the phone or tablet from running as smoothly as it could. You can also do different things like under or overclock the processor.

Received a Kindle for Christmas. liking it a lot, does the email web browsing really good. I'm a Amazon junky and have a prime account which swayed my choice quit a bit. you will have to put me in the anti-apple group not just not owning any thing apple. I opened a unlimited music cloud account  at amazon and i am know in the process of uploading my mp3's to it. That is slow going with 33,900 tracks i think i will be done sometime next week  :duh: but then i will have access to all of it on the kindle with a couple of swipes.
