UE Triple Fi 10's by Ultimate Ears which has become part of Logitech and a company that has supplied the music industry with high quality on stage In ear monitoring put these out a while back for the mass market and alot of people swear by them-add me to the list.

Ever since I got some UE 700's as part of a trade I made I have wondered what they would sound like. With a list price of $399.99 I didn't think it possible for me to ever own a pair and find out until yesterday. I found a guy who bought several pair for friends during a sale that had them for $99 a pair and was able to snag his last pair for $99 plus shipping.
As soon as I put them in my ears and heard them I was hit by the incredibly smooth sound, the extended but not fatiguing high end and the tight bass response. I am now at the end of my search- probably not but it sounds good- Anybody else have them?? What are your thoughts??

If I see anymore in my travels I'll give you a shout....send me your new email sometime Sunil so we can stay in touch. :thumb:

I guess that shows that headphones are a very personal choice - I have a pair and I hate them. I hated them when I first bought them. I hated them after (literally) weeks of continuous play of break-in. And I hate them more now that one side it putting out less mid-range volume than the other. Also, I can't get them to fit my ear correctly, and I find them extremely uncomfortable. Also, I think the cabling is poor (compared to the Etymotic ER4).

Can you tell I just spent several hours using them while driving from North Texas to Southern Illinois. If you want to know how I really feel, just ask and I'll tell you. I just can't justify the expense to replace them until they're completely shot just because I hate them (yes, my stubborn nature trumps my personal enjoyment).

I have these(listening to them now actually),  I don't see how they could not be liked...they are pretty amazing.  If you can't get a good fit/seal then no IEM's are going to sound acceptable.  FWIW, YMMV.

I own them, they're alright, not amazing. Of course I paid a bit more than double of what you paid so maybe that's why I'm lukewarm to them.

I'm definitely selling them soon.

I owned a pair. They fell apart, and I handled them with care and only wore them on long flights (not every day). The glue that was holding them together simply gave out. They didn't sound that great either. I would not buy another pair even if the mechanical problems were just an anomaly. For $100 I think one can do much better (e.g. HiFiman RE-Zeros).

Ya the weakest aspect of these cans are definately the construction. Specifically the cable. It is absolutely appalling. I have had $15 headphones that were built better. UE ought to be ashamed of themselves on these.

the cable does suck. i usually get 3 to 4 months before i have to replace them. would think by know they would have done something about that. i wear mine 6 or 7 hours a day 5 days a week at work. with no problem. still think they sound really good. If i was going to pay full price for them would they be what i was buying probably not. Westone 3 come to mind.

@Pez   Wow, I have never seen a bad review on these IEM's, I need to get my ears on some Beyerd's DT880's if you think these are not so great I would like to hear what im missing.  I am concerned about the cable, however I have had mine for a year now and have no cable issues.  I am very careful with the cable though.  Off topic but as an FYI, I have one of this guys(nwavguy.com) portable headphone amps on the way.  I like his solid electrical engineering approach.

Happy Holidays

The Beyerdynamics DT880 flatcans are great headphones. Better than the triplefis for sure IMO. Of course they are very very different cans. You do not want to use the beyers on an iPhone jack without some sort of headphone amp. The triplefis on the other hand can be plugged into anything and sound pretty darn good. They sound really great with certain headphone amps, but just mediocre with most in my experience.

The sad thing is I lost my DT880s at RMAF this year.  And the triplefi's are starting to cut in and out because of the shitty construction. All that said I am saving my pennies to buy the JH audio JH13s. They are head and shoulders above any headphone I have heard period.

Pez, OUCH....sorry for your loss.  That sux.

I too am considering the JH 13, 16, and JH-3A amp/dsp combo as you can tune the bass and supposedly provides superior performance though I am skepitcal of this.  Unfortunatley there is no practical way I know of to audition these to see if 1) they are a large enough step up from the Tri10's 2)Audition within the JH line to determine if I can detect a point of diminishing returns etc.

As Im sure you are aware, that J Harvey of JH is the founder of UE and I believe designed the tri10's before Logitech bought UE and forced? him out.

Yes, met with Jerry at RMAF. That is the best way to audition them is at RMAF. As far as I'm concerned the JH13s are better than the JH16s. Even Jerry says it's a preference thing. Some people like the robust bass of the 16s, but I think it throws off the splendid balance of mids and highs making them overly fat sounding. As far as I'm concerned no other headphone in his line up is in the same class as the JH13s. so in other words the point of 'diminishing returns' IS the JH13s.

As far as how they compare to the Triplefis, there is no comparison. It's one of those things that when you hear it you know, the 13s are just better period.

Who cares about the cable?  You can get an aftermarket (much better) one very easily.

I love these iems...they're very popular on headfi.org and for good reason...they are great.

I think my next step is to go custom mold for them.

Head-fi is the place for headphone recommendations, btw....not here.

Headfi is the place to go if you want a bunch of ignorant fanboys patting themselves on the back. AC is where you go for a healthy dose of truth administered by yours truly.

....so your endorsing or recommending these correct?? I was wondering because down below you say this isn't the place to do that???

I really like mine and I'm glad I found some to try out, I have a few other pair that sound just as good in many ways and not as good in other ways-Etymotic, Sleek Audio and I recently found some higher end Sony's that were discontinued that I tend to grab most often when leaving my apartment to go for a good distance walk. Happy Holidays Folks!!!
