James, elsewhere, has explained that the upcoming BHA-1 will come in two flavours - one with an internal power supply and a lower cost option for those who have an MPS-2 power supply.

I would like to know which of these members of this Circle would choose?

I've looked at my setup, which includes an MPS-2, and decided, if I buy a BHA-1, to spend the extra money for a unit with an internal power supply. Reasons?

First, I've discovered that headphone gear is more dispensible than components in the rest of my system. That is, I already have owned four different headphone amps, and it is not inconceivable that I might be attracted to another one even if I owned a BHA-1. A headphone amp without a power supply would be harder to cycle out of my system, even if I wanted to give it away.

Second, normally I don't use the rest of my system when I fire up my headphones. A BHA-1 with an internal power supply would mean I need not run my preamp to use them given my present setup.

Any other thoughts?

I ended up going another route but if I had gone with the BHA, I would've gone with the internally-powered version as well, DaveNote. If I were a Bryston pre-amp owner who had an MPS-2, I think I still would have taken the route you're leaning towards.

Thanks, D.D. What other route did you take? I ask because I had a Grace Designs m902, which I gave away, and a Schiit Lyr, which I'm using, but because of its relatively low price, I'm willing to stretch for the BHA-1 if it sounds better.

Enough said! A major investment and a legendary amp as I understand it.

BTW, just in case there's any confusion about whether the internal PSU affects the sound quality, James said that both units have the same level of sound quality. The external version is just offered as a lower-cost alternative to customers who already have an MPS-2. Here's the link:
