Sunday listening, anybody game?
« on: 17 Nov 2011, 06:36 am »
I have something here you guys really need to hear ... it's unlike anything you've probably ever seen or heard.  I've been working on these things for a LONG time, but the end result is really incredible!  It's called the Arcus, a 93db sensitive, 118db SPL max, 110 pound ... bookshelf!  Drivers alone for these bad boys is about $2500 my cost.  The way they fill a room is unlike anything I've ever heard, unlimited dynamics of big horns AND balance/resolution of the best 'audiophile' speakers.

So if you have some free time this Sunday, why not come by for a listen.  Let's say 2pm to 6pm or so, a little earlier or a little later is fine ... I'll be here all day.

Address (mapquest gets you here fine)
5962 Town and Country Ln
House Springs, MO  63051

And to pique interest, checkout this cool render showing internal construction ... I don't skimp when I build something.

Well, I could respond to Sunday listening, maybe.  Is it Sunday?  If you mean that figuratively as in special, the LA Jazz Choir- Listen . . (Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab).  That mutha is one of a kind Sundays.  Tho, I am listening to it tonite . . Tuesday, right?  Oh, shit, Wednesday, right?.  LOL, brother, I just couldn't resist in my present state of whatever.

Jesus H.  Having re-read your post.  Thanks!

Ha, ancient Chinese secret ... just the woofer alone is like 25 pounds.  One thing is sure, I'm tried of moving them around!

Lot's of listening to them going on today, final voicing tweaks before Sunday's coming out party.

Absolutely!  It might be wet Sunday though ... just plan on bringing it and I'm sure we can squeeze in some trigger time.

I've admittedly made a couple unfulfilled random promises over the years regarding coming in from KC for one of these.  Sadly, however, the only times I make it to STL anymore are for specific events (weddings, etc.) . . vs. just a random visit.  I do want to come in for one of these, however.  I definitely need to get my ass back there ASAP.

This made me think of first GAS event I attended (actually, the only GAS event. . .I missed one hosted by Scott F. due to shear stupidity).  Here's a pic (from Steve K's album, the gracious host of the event):

On a totally unrelated note, posting this reminded me of how the t-shirt I was wearing then (I'm the one in the green) randomly became my *official* concert-going t-shirt.  I have worn this T-shirt to every "major" band/artist I have seen since ~2005.  For example (from Waters' The Wall tour, 10/10):

If you look closely, you'll see the T is for an STL St. Patrick's day run (which I didn't participate in).  Point being (and once again), I need to get my ass back to STL, on a permanent basis, ASAP.

By the way, the T-shirt will be dusted off for 12/3 Wilco and the 3/11 Radiohead concerts in KC (it also fits much better now than in the pic from last year. . .)

Ryan,

Thanks for hosting this afternoon.  The Cirrus and Arcus sounded wonderful.  They certainly make me question the need to spend more for top-tier sound.  I'd encourage anyone looking for "class A" sound in a relatively compact package to audition the Vapor Sound line.

Hope to see you here at my place when I host another GTG.
