Bryston 1962 - 2012 50th Anniversary
« on: 16 Nov 2011, 05:35 am »
Hi James,

Bryston has been in business since 1962 and next year marks 50 years in business.  :thumb:

Is Bryston planning for any Anniversary Series??

Here is my vote...Bryston bread and butter has always been the 4 series and that is now the 4BSST2. What about a juiced up version of the 4BBST2 with ALL premium parts both internally and externally from top to bottom including footers on the amplifier? Keeping the same wattage but more refine and much higher in quality?

I am sure there are others with more brilliant ideas  :)

We can not make it perform any better so any changes would be strictly cosmetic.

I agree.  A limited edition run of products with "better" component flies in the face of what (I think) is core to what Bryston is.

Maybe a logo on the faceplate?

How about T shirts and hats :)

Gold lights would be more appropriate for the 50th :)

That might be one way to get VOLKS to come back to the fold...

50 years. Now that is an accomplishment not many can claim. Quality and customer service goes a long long way. Kudos, only the strong survive.

Just wanted to note that though the company was founded in 1962 by three founders, from which the name Bryston came from, it was at that time a medical equipment manufacturing company - not related to audio products in any way.  It was not until 1968 that John Russell Sr. acquired it and changed the mandate.  So perhaps an Anniversary of the modern company would be based on the 1968 date or even perhaps the date they introduced their first Bryston audio product - the Pro 3 in 1973.

I would also think that any Anniversary Product might be a limited edition reflection of the original Pro 3.  Perhaps a modern take on the original features and styling cues (note that it had VU meters).  Say a Pro 3 with some gold trim built using today's (3B-SST/2 guts) and construction quality, parts etc. but with the VU meters and styling cues from the original.

Even better would be to have Chris Russell's signature - together with perhaps the rest of the Executive ownership / design teams signatures on the amp top plate.

That all said - might we be waiting until 2018 or 2023 to celebrate 50yrs?

I know how tempting it is to do the special edition trip . Hell I own 75th anniversary Wharfedales and Creek OBH8SE and a Simaudio W4070SE , but I have thought about that and I simply don't think Bryston needs to go that route , their products already carry the industries best warranty and are used in studios through out the world , I don't think a thicker face plate or a gold anodized finish means a hill of beans and this point . Maybe a discrete 50th anniversary logo on it sure . I am damn sure there was a reason Bryston dropped meters in the first place , so you want meters buy Onkyo

Good points 2-ch man!.  Maybe that's correct, an anniversary edition could not bring any higher performance to the table - it would just be aesthetics - which is not part of the Bryston mandate for introducing new products.

What, if anything was done for Bryston's 25th or 40th anniversary?  Perhaps that would be the benchmark for what to do for a 50th.

I think that any of this is just grandstanding and cheap window dressing that a fine product like Bryston doesn't have to resort to . My Harley Sportster had an anniversary edition .so what , it's still the good old bike if ever was  ( IMO).  Perhaps a nice beltbukkle would be nice though....   LOL...........Anyway , I would hope that the "James' gang" would spend their money on further improving an already proven design. (Volks , take note) ................and return to the real thing. :icon_twisted:

I think the products are fine as is. Maybe a discreet 50th logo, then people can debate if the anniversary unit sounds better  than the rest .

Actually just a product history with pics on the Bryston web page would be cool. Better have them get started on it soon though James, your web sites changes are slower to come out than product changes! :thumb:

Cheers
