Mainly for James Tanner:
I was reading all the old Bryston Circle posts here, and ran across the fact that the balanced output of the BP-26 is much higher than the unbalanced output.
IF I used the unbalanced output, would I (without having to send in my amp for pro model attenuator) be able to have less gain from BP-26, and thus use more of the volume control range?
I would just try it, BUT my current pre to amp distance is 20 ft, and I only have a balanced cable that long.
I have no problem with the loss of balanced common mode noise rejection IF I went to a non-balanced cable.
(In fact i would probably just swap connectors on the cable I now use (Kimber Hero)
So I am just wondering?
(I am waffling on sending in my 4B-SST2 for the attenuation thing just because of the old warning:"If it ain't broke, don't FIX it"
Thanks!

Hi Elizabeth - yes using the single ended RCA will 'reduce' the gain by 6dB (assuming the same 1v or 2 volt setting on the sensitivity switch).

Cool. I will have to find a cable to try it out.
Thanks again.

Elizabeth see if you can find a pair of XLR to RCA adapters and try it on your existing xlr cables.

forgive me for nosing in here but volume attenuation generally attenuates the input signal not the output signal therefore I am confused with your line of reasoning on this?  I could be wrong so if the BP26 vol control does attenuate the output then please let me know :thumb:
If you wish to experiment wouldn't it make more sense to instead run the output of your BDA/BCD unbalanced to the BP26 input?

Sorry Knowtalent, you are not getting the picture. I am not going to go into the whole thing. suffice to say you are on the wrong page.
