Skiing ninja has designed and sells upgraded crossovers for the 850's along with numerous other speakers.  By all of the reviews that I have read they are a significant upgrade.  However the ls6's are in another league.  I have heard them one time over a year ago in a two channel setup and since then nothing that I have auditoned has came close.

Thanks for the Ninja tip, worth a try.
From a novice perspective it seems crazy how a couple of wires and capacitors can improve a speaker that much, guess because the drivers are visible and the wires are not.

Regarding the Ref 100 center, Danny designed a new network for it so if you stick with it, that would improve your front match...

King of all Orders, I'll take your 6's for use as surrounds :D

Just saw this Ninja!! Ahahaha.

I'd have you build me a set of custom external crossovers first with different caps then Sonicap to see if I could correct the glare before completely ditching them.

You get your 9's yet?

Before you try something other than Sonicap Gen I's as the main caps in the XO, add Sonicap Platinums to the Gen I's.  I've done it to 3 different speakers at this point, and have been very pleased w/ the results each time.  Shouldn't get any type of glare w/ the Platinums.

The Sonicaps are very neutral and won't add much in the way of coloration. If you have a glare then it is likely something else. I'd look to your electronics.

Just a note that Danny designed the circuit that is the basis of the upgrade.

I had no idea until years ago I tried it out.  Built all new networks with the same circuit design but built them to the same basic spec as the 'Ninja Master' networks you see on the site.  I was shocked at the difference.  It's why I started Skiing Ninja...

No 9's yet here.  Mark keeps saying he is going to call me but I'm not sure what for.  All I need is a shipment :)

What CD player are you using?

I don't normally use a CDP, I have a Michell Gyrodec, Tecnoarm, Dynavector, Dodd phono stage that I use for an analog rig.

The last thing I can think of changing that might make an improvement is my preamp.

Danny, would you mind if I emailed you some pictures of my setup to maybe give me some advice on how to maximize the space they are in? How to treat, etc, etc, etc?

Danny, I would greatly appreciate the help.

I'm rearranging all of the gear, so I'll kick some pictures to you in a few days.

Enjoy the holiday tommorow.

Take care.

Derrell, having the same thoughts about me RS1000 mains and big foot center.  Ordered Danny's demo OB-7s and planning on building an  N3 as the center channel.
WAF won't allow for the LS-line as this setup is in the main "great room" in my house.

Hopefully the mains will be in in a week or two and I'll give some impressions...

I have the rocket 850, Bigfoot, elt monitors, and mfw15 all powered by a Denon 4806 and I am left wanting more. I have listened to the ls-6 and loved every moment they are awesome!  Howerver at the moment I do not have a dedicated room therefore I think the ob-7 will be a better fit.  I am 90% movies 10% music but I think that is because the 850's don't do music that well for me.  Do the ob-7's do well in a theater setup?  What has been used for a center?   Thanks

Hello Derrell
This is an older thread but I am having success with some fine tuning to my system as I too felt my rockets almost did not sound as musical as some older JBL's LX44.

I installed the Ninja upgrade Danny designed and after about 40 hrs of play time they do sound much better. I also doubled my bass traps from 4 to 8 and calibrated my UFW 12 subwoofer. I think there were a combination of effects with some muddy bass that I did not enjoy.

I just wonder if the mass produced speaker makers tune their speakers to be a little more loud on the highs and lows and not really as accurate. Much like modern POP music is overly tuned. My JBL's are in an open livingroom and my rockets in a basement theater. All the advice on this and other forums is helping me tune my system, just wish I had an exper "friend" here in VA to shorten the learning curve.

Good luck.
Tim
