It isn't so much a "car",as it was the "cars".  Circa 1967-9 you could buy a wonderful old boat for 75-100 bucks drive it around on 23 cent a gallon gas and 10 cent a quart reclaimed oil, used a lot of that! You could drive one of those babies till the repair was more than the value of the car and just leave it by the side of the road. Most of the time we didn't bother with registration.....and insurance...you are joking right?

Beautiful car Ian. I hope you get it.

Jim, practicing apexes is the most fun a 18yo can have in the wintery midnight backwoods of Boston suburb with $1 of gas, at least back in '84.  You never know what's coming around that next left hander!!  :o  So damn stupid, but lucky....   Now my kids have me running gokarts on an indoor track, it's a lot of fun. They want me to sell the stereo and take them racing. uh-huh...

This may sound strange but one of my favorite cars was a 1985 Plymouth Reliant station wagon. Mine had the Mitsubishi engine, reliable, comfortable and decent gas mileage. Loved it.

My second car was an 82 Reliant sedan.
Lost track of how many transmissions and camshafts it wore out.

Personally, I'd give a certain (vital) body part for what Lee and Ian are talking about!  aa

The Cutlass, or the T.A. ............that's a very hard choice.

Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way.

Yes...the good "old" days (60's).....where you could get a used 1958 Chevy Biscayne two door - for just running around ...paint finish was a primer (grey)...cost was $100.00....and just have fun for a few months...then off to the junk yard. But I had a registration, and insurance.
It was a good first car....then...in a few months buy your first brand spanking new car....$2,700.00. A 1967 Plymouth Belvedere.... :D

Yes....those were the days......

Back in high-school I had an early '74 Datsun 260z, I'd really like to get another one.

This is my current automotive toy...

I plan to keep it forever!

1989 Honda CRX Si.  Had an aftermarket exhaust and air intake, but the rest was stock.  I only had it for the last 40,000 miles of its life, but it still had plenty of pep at 170,000 miles to red line 130mph in eastern New Mexico.  Stick, no power steering, and it handled like a dream.  Just a hair over 2000 pounds, and 0-60 in about 6.5 seconds on 125 horsepower.  Would get 35 miles per gallon driving 95 miles an hour, more like 45 driving speed limit.

I sure get better gas mileage now with my Prius, but my love of driving I left with the CRX.

Holy crow, Len....I grew up with that model Newport (silver color).  It ran until my sister cracked it up in the early 80's. We used to describe it as virtually indestructible (until my sister got a hold of it )

Dang - it had black plastic seats, however.  OUCH!!! Summers and the blazing sun were not kind inside there with that.

Ah, memories of that one..... John
