Thank you so much for the kind words. Really all we are here to do is try to spread the word about the importance of room acoustics.

I have known Ethan for about 2.5 years and not once have I ever encountered him being unethical or as gone out of his way to hurt GIK. It amazes me that there are a few guys out there that have spent so much time trying to discredit him when there are SO many snake oil acoustic companies out there. Does he get it right 100% of the time? No, but I doubt anyone does.  Granted a healthy discussion between 2 pros is GREAT, but I have seen it go WAY past that. I would go out on a limb and say that without Ethan there would still be people hanging egg crates for bass traps.

Glenn,

I see a very similar willingness from both you and Brian as well. What prompted all this is the bullseye that seems to be on Ethan's back. I'm not sure if you and Brian have one's on your backs out there in internetland, as I don't frequent many other forums.

I also should mention that I think the Acoustics Circle is probably the most difficult one on AudioCircle from a vendor's standpoint. It's an open forum, not a manufacturers forum. The etiquette rules of manufacturers and industry reps cannot be followed here. It's a bit of a free for all. Perhaps even a conflict of interest.  And as a business person, you have my sympathies.

You guys have it tough here.

If someone posts a question in the Acoustics Circle, one or more vendors come in to help. It's kinda like the equivalent of a guy walking into a car dealership and having reps from numerous auto manufacturers come to answer an general inquiry. Not the easiest scenario, or the most comfortable from the consumer's or vendor's standpoint.

I have no idea what would make it easier on you guys here, so that it doesn't come across as the different acoustics vendors pulling, tugging, and luring on potential clients here.

To address you comment about getting it right, as I mentioned before, I've followed numerous recording industry magazines over many years, Mix, Sound on Sound, Electronic Musician et al, and one of the most succesful studio designers today, John Storyk, himself admits that despite all their knowledge, theory, and practical experience, they sometimes still don't get it right, and that what they think should/would work, in theory, doesn't always work in practice. Their knowledge is constantly evolving.

I find that acoustics is very similar in a lot of ways to the study of aerodynamics(fluidynamics). They are still discovering new things all the time.

Keep up the good work guys.  :thumb:

Cheers

I would disagree, I find open forums like this weed out the BS and or any company that is simply here to cause trouble or BS the public. I like it that I am in a business that all it really takes is to piss off one customer and they could post away about you. IMO, it helps everyone, the consumer because service has to be top notch and the company because they have to keep things top notch. When a customer calls me and asks if our product really works I just say "go google GIK Acoustics".

I've had a few questions that Ethan has take the time to answer thoughtfully and without a sales pitch. I'll be another in the "leave him alone" camp. I didn't read the other guys words/flames about Ethan and don't care to. When the time comes, Ethan's one of the fellows who's words I'll trust.

Ethan has vastly expanded my knowledge of acoustics, and he's gone out of his way to take time out of his busy day to talk to me about acoustics in general and his products.  His experience has greatly aided me in tuning my own rooms, and he's done all this without every giving me the "hard sell."  We should have more "shills" like Ethan! :)

BTW, once I'm gonna be in MN for a couple months but when I get back I'll be ready to get some stuff. :D

Recently I purchased two Mondo traps and one MiniTrap from Ethan.  Even though my current listening configuration is not ideal the acoustic treatments still help with cleaning up the bass in my small room.  He was very honest in his reply that repositioning my speakers would make the largest improvement.  I am sure he is correct, but the current room configuration prohibits moving the speakers.  I'll guess I have to wait until I get a house with a dedicated listening room.  I can highly recommend real traps to anyone wishing to purchase a well made functional product.

My only suggestion is to come out with a seies of covers made of GOM fabric to cover the traps so users can have more color selection and it would also protect the steel frame from scratches.  Also covering the steel frame might have a higher WAF [or in my case GAF (girlfriend approval factor)].

Best,

John
