DIY Open baffle and LGK 2.0
« on: 31 Oct 2022, 01:21 pm »
I was thinking about trying 2 SB audience 12 inch open baffle woofers and the LGK 2.0 as mid/tweeter. Crossing around 500 hertz. Maybe a 2.5 way design. Kind of mimicking a spatial audio M4 speaker. Any thoughts? Enough output for medium size room with high ceilings?

We did have the LGK "Wedgie" that used the Neo3, and 4 LGKs.

We haven't used the new 2.0s in an open-baffle configuration yet, but it should still work pretty well since yhey have a Qts of 0.7

I've also worked on a design that uses 4 M165 woofers down below.

Something like what you're describing should also work as well.

Now, that's almost exactly what I would like to build.  I've been dreaming about a set of Wedgies, but with a mid bass stack that might work without a sub, and would allow sub Integration at a relatively low frequency (50-80 Hz or so).  I had been thinking of something like NXOticas with the Wedgie as the upper element.  I hope that the new LGK drivers will work in the Wedgie.

Sortly after   we reddesigned the  Wedgie Cabs and  designed the Super Mini cabs,  Danny  had  us  design  a  matching  bass section  usning  4  M165 in  an OB  cabinet  that  matched to   wedgie/Super Mini speakers.  We sent    you  guys  a prototpe pair of these and as far as I know,  you    never  built them  out.  A second pair went  to a customer  who   as far as I know is   still using them  happily.
There is a  thread  on this  forum about   the    desing  of this cabinet
https://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=164376.80     Post  # 90

There was another  design that used  3 M165's  front  mounted,   used only  3 to keep  height of cab   at  reasonable level.
I believe thaterre are pics of the actual  cabs later in that thread....

We still have the prototype M165 bases, we'll be assembling at least one of them with a prototype of the upper section that fits the new 2.0 drivers and verify that the design works out.

Would that then be a NX-LGK?  :thumb:

Is there any intrest in making these "LGK" Wedges using the new 2.0 drivers to be tested and sold as a kit? This speaker design is beautiful! I prefer it visually over the NX-Otica. I imagine that it could sound incredible too!

It depends on how soon we can get a sample cabinet from the guy who cuts out flat pack.
