Hi Guys,

Based on this thread, and the awesome online reviews, I just bought my wife a D7000 for Christmas.  I'm pretty excited to get it going.  Hopefully she won't think it's too big.  She has a little portable camera, so I figured this would be a good "other" camera.

I love my D7000 and don't feel it is too big in any way.

Yesterday I just received my newest lens (Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor) and plan on using it extensively for holiday pics.  I wanted to get a lens that was good in low light and could really excel  in the area of depth of field.

Taking some test pics last night in front of the Christmas tree, it was so nice to see my son so sharply and crisply captured while having the tree being blurry and out of focus.

Given that this lens can be had for around $125, it is a no-brainer!!

It's been cold, rainy and windy here in So Cal, so I haven't gone out and taken any pics with my new camera yet.

My wife's Christmas present to me did arrive today.  It's a Gariz half case for the x100.  The case is a bit more red than it looks on their website, but it still is very good quality.  It will probably get darker with age.

The half case solves one idiosyncratic problem of the x100's is that it shifts the tripod screw in hole about an inch away from the battery/SD card door.  So, now, I don't need to remove the quick release plate to open the access door.

Here's a few pics:

That looks totally retro cool.  It reminds me of my father's old Voightlander.

Yes it's retro in looks but also retro in the way that makes photography fun because it has lots of dials for me to play with.  In menu controls and touch screen lcd doesn't make a camera fun.

Must... have... new... toy...

As long as we still have these handy opposable thumbs, knobs will always be favorable to touch screens IMO.  Nice looking camera!  Metal?

viggen

Yup all metal.  Black parts are plastic but with a slight leathery texture.  I think it's build quality is better than that of my wife's Nikon FE.

Reading a bit about the new Fuji X-Pro 1.  Contemplating whether I should wait for it to come out and return the X100 in the mean time.

Deciding against it as, I think, with additional expense and size of interchangeable lens, I rather have a true SLR.

Nikon D4 will be out soon!

Stop playing around, that in my opinion will be the best low light dslr money no object.  One caveat, one may have to go back to school to unleash its true potential.
