James, or anyone else out there, can Reference Recording downloads be downloaded to be put on a USB drive to be played with the BDP!?  If so, has anyone done this and how is it done?

All of the Reference Recordings Catalog can be downloaded from HDTracks https://www.hdtracks.com/index.php?file=browse_music&type=label&id=16.  RR has a few HRx recordings in 176.4khz/24bit on DVD-R data discs that can be ordered directly from RR.  For those you just have to put the disc in your computer's DVD drive and copy it over to the BDP-1 drive.

Unfortunately, not all of the RR recordings are available at higher than CD (16/44.1) resolution at this time.

That is true but you can always count on the RR recordings to be high quality and well done.

Thanks for the tips. I didn't realize that RR downloads were on HDTracks. That's where I download most of my music.
Tony, when you rip a RR disc to a computer, will it be copied at 176/24?

jjc1,
The only discs that will give you 176/24 are the ones identified as HRx and sold on DVD-R data discs.  These discs will not play in a CD or DVD player.  They must be played through a computer.  I have purchased only one of these which is a terrific jazz recording.

Can they also be ripped to the computer?

They are WAV files and can simply be copied to the hard drive.  Because they are WAV files, they will not contain metadata tags, so you should be able to use a metadata tagging program or your music player program to download the tags.

I should have gone on to say that the standard WAV format cannot store tags in the file itself and that players like iTunes will store these tags in their own database.  If you want these files to have tags that will show in any music player software that you might use, you may want to convert them to AIFF.  (You could also convert them to FLAC if (a) you don't need to play them in iTunes or (b) if you are using the Pure Music iTunes add-in playback engine, which does support FLAC).

I just want to play them thru the BDP which plays wav files. I actually have some of my music in WAV which I play thru BDP.
