I have an AN TT-1 and I love it. I just upgraded my pre amp to the new Rotel RC-1082. It is much quieter than my old one. The thing is now just as I am about to spin a record, I pick the tonearm off its rest, and it begins a quiet buzz...or hum. If I put it back down it is quieter. Up...humm...down....quiet. At this point I haven't even touched the needle to the record. The only way that I can get it to stop completely is to lift the head of the tonearm straight up until it bumps against its stopping point. Then it is silent.

I dream of quiet playback, but this is just enough noise to be heard when I listen.

I know that this gets a lot of chatter around here. I searched the archives and found nothing of turntable poltergeists. What do you all think?
