Danny, Is it an inductor change-out or also resistors?

Yes, just one inductor change .22 to a .33 and one resistor change.

Turbo is tweaking another inductor value as well, plus playing with the last resistor value. There are dozens of ways to get a near flat response and slight tonal balance shifts by making small adjustments. This is why listening comparisons can sometimes take weeks.

Great news!

Glad it's only a few componets.

Thanks TurboFC3S for finding this!

Now to get the gasrage cleeaned up so I can get moving on my 2 pairs!

Thanks TurboFC3S for finding this!

I'm feel great that I was able to help find and troubleshoot the problem, saving Danny and Al's customers some headaches.  Danny has been incredibly good to me since before I was even a customer, helping him out gives me a warm fuzzy.

Thanks for the help.  Two of the boards shouldn't be hard to fix, but one of them I already glued in the cabinet.  Hopefully I can operate.  :)

If you glued it in with hot glue, point your blow drier in there for 30 seconds or so to soften up the glue before trying to break the board loose.

I too am glad that I only have to change the tweeter boards :)  Of course, I made it a lot more complicated by giving myself 4 different inductor/resistor combinations to test with music before settling on a final.  That'll be the project for tomorrow.

Yellow = .11mH 14ga Foil Inductor and 7.5 ohm resistor
Blue = .15mH 14ga Foil Inductor and 10 ohm resistor
Pink = .15mH 14ga Foil Inductor and 7.5 ohm resistor
Green = Kit included .11mH small gauge Solen Inductor and 7.5 ohm resistor

Alright, been listening all morning.  The Pink combo is out, just not enough top end to sparkle.  I'm going to rule out the Green combo, simply because I can't bring myself to stick that little inductor back in when I have a foil :)

So between the Yellow and Blue, honestly I like the sound of both.  The Blue is more revealing and very engaging, it would probably be the best voicing if you listen to all smooth music - electric guitar and snare drum have a touch of bite with this voicing - but Norah Jones, Madeleine Peyroux, Ray LaMontagne, and Tori Amos all sound fantastic with the Blue line.

The Yellow line is what I'm going to assemble as my final crossover voicing.  It's slight dip through the 2-3khz region makes it a touch more forgiving for rock music, and still retains 99% of the detail and revealing nature of the Blue line.  With this voicing it seems that cymbals and higher treble are a touch more forward, which I like.  Call it air, call it whatever, but I like a very slightly forward upper few octaves - and it's not due to the top octaves having a peak in response, it's due to the 2-3khz region being just a tiny bit down, which makes them more noticable in relative.

So there you have it, a few crossover options.  If you want to experiment, you can ... or you can build the kit as supplied and have a fantastic sounding design.

Any fully constructed pics?
Any pics of the assembled crossovers?

Hey guys, everybody loves a happy ending!

The rebuild and reassembly are complete.  I've been listening to music for about the last 30 minutes and quite enjoying them.  I did the obligatory Norah Jones, then some Cowboy Junkies, now Chili Peppers Stadium Arcadium ... the OB2X does them all well.  Great top end snap, and that unmistakable open-ness in the midrange.  I'm running them without a sub right now just to get a feel for the bass, it will definately integrate well.  Tomorrow I'll give them 600wpc in my primary system and A/B with some other speakers.

I have final measurements of both channels that I'll upload tomorrow.

Anybody waiting on building their kits can move ahead without fear now  8)

Sounds like my kit will be here just in time for my holidays! aa

How much veneer did you need to complete the pair?
That birds-eye maple is georgeous!
