Just for curiosity sake, what is the bass response like in the dining room with this set-up?

This may help us determine where the problem is.

Not really related to the bass and the sub, but you could pull the left, center and right speakers closer to the front edge of the table, TV and table, respectively.

The sub should give you more bass in that corner. Maybe angle the ladder over it to make the wife happy. When you set the sub to 150 Hz, Denon to 80 Hz and speakers small, what boost/cut settings did the setup determine? You might try inching the sub's level up and rerunning the Denon's setup.

Your wife might not like it, but another option is to stack another PDR8 on top of the one you have now.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts - I think I need to change the heading from Recomenditions for New Speakers
To Help me get the most out of the system I have now ~
If I get another sub I would not get another PDR8 and stack it .I would want one that would give me better lows not 2 so so subs .
Saturday I should be able to run that Avia disc & get some measurements -I am not shure how to do this yet I hope it is easy .
What test should I run "Low Frequency (200 to 20 Hz) Sweep"
I have also had some post in another thread Re speaker cables & I still have toms testing to do on that -I was hoping some cables got me som better lows to my mains

two subs would definitely even out the response in your room.  Help to fill in the nulls.

Did you see what the response was like in the dining room?  Did you try the back corner?

Ok I ran the denon auto set up 3x
First with sub maxed out and it cranked up all other chanells to +10
turned it down to 75% and got about +4 on the main and -3 on the sub I just tried sub & anout half input and got almost equal
I used the max 150Hz wide open
When I listen to music like this there is almost nothing comming out of the sub .
Next I will run avia
How do I use the avia tests ? Anyone live NY Long Island & want to stop by one day to figure this out with me ?

You say that there is nothing coming out of the sub, but it may be that you have it setup properly. You do not want to hear anything coming from the sub. Ideally, you should not be able to tell it is in the system. The bass harmonics will emanate from the monitors.

Now, it's possible (and quite likely) that your sub is too small to pressurize your room adequately so that you feel the weight of the bass frequencies. That's why I suggested stacking another PDR8. You'll double the pressure in the room and lessen the distortion of each sub at the same time.

Looking at the TOC of the Avia DVD, chapter 6 explains how to use an SPL meter and the early parts of chapter 7 are for audio setup. I'll bet that the SPL meter shows a nice balanced level coming from the monitors and the sub.

I believe that your sub is too small for your room to give you the effect you desire. Buying another "better" sub, unless it's quite a bit bigger, will not solve your problem.

Thanks ~  :o
Another thing I found when running the denon mic it set the levels across the 3 fronts almost the same 1.5 l&r and 3 for the center
When I ran tone from aivia I had to go to 0 on L&R and almost up to 6 on the center to keep it even at 75 on the spl
Oh yea forgot to mention My complaint of lack of lows is only for music when I watch movies the sub comes to life with some good explosions BOOM
Ahh also the denon auto set up set the main speakers to Large Not small

I hope I did not offend you with my previous post. I apologize if I did.

It looks like you are probably able to do a better setup manually with the Avia test tones + SPL meter than the Denon can do automatically. Based on your example, you could set the L&R at -3, C at +3 and sub at ??? to maintain a 75 dB level. For what it's worth, the THX calibration level is 85 dB. I wore ear plugs when I calibrated my 2.1 M&K system.

The reason your sub comes alive with DVDs is that they have a wider dynamic range than CD and are mastered at a much lower average level than CD. We usually have to set the volume control much higher for movies than for CDs so the dialog is adequately loud and then the explosions and effects are much louder than we ever listen to music. Also, typically explosions and effects have a much longer sustain time than bass notes in music so the average level again is much higher.

No Offence takes  :P
For now I will run the Sub at 100% for music and 50% HT
I guess that is why I always complained when I cranked up my sub that I was able to tell that  is was coming from the right front even throw it should be undetectable where the lows are coming from

Got any money???  Try the Ronins by Paul H. from Nomad Audio.  You won't ever need a sub, nor any other speaker:)...

I just bought and hooked up the Insignia speakers from Best Buy which cost me about $54 including tax.

They kick ass.

Quite tempting to tell the high end manufacturers I own to fly a kite!  Wouldn't want to insult Magnepan MMG owners or Martin Logan Quest owners or VMPS Kool-Aiders, geez, ya better jump the Audiocircle hoops baby.!
I'm a mass-fier and proud of it.  Running on a Pioneer receiver.

$50 and the "high end" is now "mass fi".
