BDA-3.14 shows strange behaviour (again)
« on: 30 Aug 2020, 12:24 pm »
Hi James,

The last few days my BDA-3.14 shows very strange behaviour. The music on my USB hard disk is organized in folders but the BDA-3.14 saw only a few files from the first two folders. In that stadium, it could play music. Later on, all folders seem to have disappeared and there was no sound anymore. I have checked the hard disk, but there was nothing wrong with it. All maps and files were there.

I tried the usual tricks: update, reboot, factory reset, all to no avail. The only thing that worked, was to remove the power cord for a few minutes and then everything seems OK. For the time being, that is.

This happened two times now, within a few days.

FYI, the hard disk is formatted in exFAT, but I have also tried my backup hard disk (one at a time), that is formatted in FAT 32 and the other format didn’t make a difference. Both disks use less than 200 mA, so they are not drawing too much current from the BDA-3.14.

According to Manic Moose, the unit is up-to-date. The firmware version is BDA314_2020_04c. I know there is a newer version available for the BDA-3, but I don’t know if this version also is correct for the BDA-3.14.

Do you have an idea what was going on? Is there anything I can do to prevent such problems?

Thanks,

WillyP

Hi Willy

Sorry I do not - I have had no issues with my 3.14.

I will ask Chris to see what he thinks and if you put your 3.14 in Service mode Chris could have a look.

Sorry I've been a bit tardy with BDA-3.14 issues as of late.  There is an update I'm preparing for release that will fix some stuff that is related to the Pi platform and integrated products (BP18 development); however I should finally have time to address BDA-3.14 specific issues in the next couple of weeks.

Hi Chris,

Thank you for the quick reply. It is good to know that you are working on it.

Does it help if I put the BDA-3.14 in service mode or are you familiar with the issue already?

What is the preferred format for the USB hard disk (1 Tb): exFAT or FAT32?

Kind regards,

WillyP

Hi Willy

I use exFAT on all my harddrives.  Just as a test have you tried a thumbdrive?

Hi James,

I have tried a few thumbdrives, in exFAT and FAT32 and they all work without problems.
